A few guys from work and myself are planning on walking the Six Foot Track in early May. A suggestion was made to strategically place the cars at points on the walk to help reduce the amount of supplies needed thoughout the walk. Does anyone know of any vehicle accessable tracks to the main camping areas of the walk?

This is the trackhttp://www.aulro.com/afvb/nsw-act-reports/47065-coxs-river-six-foot-track-bowtells-bridge.html

Are you looking at a particular section of the 6ft tk or the whole thing? Bowtells bridge is down in the bottom of the megalong valley.

Hmmm, i would have though it would only take a few seconds to walk a 6ft track, and you wouldn't fit many cars on it :o:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

as far as i know dobbo, you drive in a bit of a way, not sure on the distance, and then there is a locked gate with no vehicle access. Greylandy, One_Iota and I plus a few others went down there a while back and drove down to the locked gate, so i would assume there is a parking area at the other end with another locked gate, how far it is between locked gates i dont know, i have never walked it.

It's been quite a while since I've been in there but I'd suggest that your best spot for vehicle access would be along Black Range from the Jenolan Rd about 13km south of Hampton. T/O at 225846E 6261358N (UTM 56H AGD66) and you should still be able to drive to the raingauge at 233206E 6258722N, the track to the left (north) at this point leads down to the
Little River where there is a locked gate and some nice camp spots along the river.

The Cox's River Xing is at the junction of Murdering Ck and Cox's R (238602E 6262497N) and years ago I saw vehicles in this area but I'm pretty sure you can't drive there now.

Katoomba (The Explorer's Tree) to Black Range is do-able in a day if travelling light and leaves an easy downhill walk to the caves to complete the track the second day.

Hi Dobbo,
Sorry that I didn't get back to you earlier.

I checked out access to the Six-Foot Tk, particularly with your "kids" & Bowtells bridge in mind. I was unable to find access suitable for (small) children. Having said that, I didn't find the access alluded to by Bailey.

Now, regarding your new venture, do you have a walk description for this track? People attacking it independently (unsupported) commonly take three days (although there is a race where people cover the 43km in a day - not for me). I have such a description (with mudmaps) which I can scan in & send to you. This may assist your planning.

I may also be available to help with logistics, should that be wanted.

Best Wishes,

Greatly appreciated, my kids are not going with us this time (bit too little) but if anyone is up for the challenge your more than welcome to join, we are starting on May 12th (monday) and are planning to do it in either two or three days. The vehicular access is not mandatory it would just make the trek a bit easier considering we could house all the tents, food and stuff in them.

The whole thing all 45km's of it.

It would be easily done in 2 days camping one night as long as no major set backs.

I'd like to go also but wouldn't be able to know until closer to the date.

Hi Dobbo,
If you & your mates are considering doing this in 1 (or even 2) days you are definitely fitter than I am. With a full (overnight) pack, 15-20km per day, depending on terrain, is generally enough for me.

I picked up a brochure (and spoke to the operator) about treks they do on the track. 3 Days, fully catered. They meet you with a set up camp every night.

$750 per head.

The brochure is at work. Dobbo, ring me tomorrow night (3p-11p) at work x83197

Who is the operator that does the trek, any website?

I've never walked the track myself, but as a LT in 1991 my Field Engineer Troop (3 Troop of 'Tunnel Rat' fame from Vietnam) built Bowtell's bridge; one of my more permanent undertakings...my first marriage did not last that long!

Enjoy and remember, if you don't post any photos on here...it never happened!
