Still plenty of snakes about, had a run in with big brown today in our feed shed, curled up under a pallet we store hay on, took some effort to get him on his way, we have a resident Black in the drain that pops up once ina while and heaps of Red Bellied Black about, with the long grass everywhere they are hard to see, you really got to be on the ball.

we get mainly copperheads here - pretty harmless, except if your a cat and then you might be off for a few days...

We lost 2 horses this year to suspected snake bites, the paddocks are seething with the little buggers

Hi Graceysdad, I lost my Jack Russell Terrier to a 5 ft. brown two Saturdays ago. Second JRT to go this way in the last 5 years.Very sad. Then when the Telstra tech came to fix the phone, we saw a Tiger snake in the longer grass behind the house. Keep your eyes open and wear long pants and boots whenever you are outside in summer.Cheers, 130man.

Sorry to hear that 130man. I often worry about my Foxies 'cause they are so inquisitive. I'd be devastated.

I got called out of bed on Sunday morning by the kids, out by the pool a decent sized brown and our bengal cat were nose to nose. Luckily the bengal is a quick bugger and the strikes were missing. I had to fling 2 flippers at the cat to get it out of the way..........Now if you get upset by violent acts or that a poor widdle snaky has left the earth....close your eyes now. This snake could have possibly also been the one that ended my 9mth shepherd, Diesels, life at Xmas:(, as they are territorial and he was in the front area where the pool is over Xmas. Well lets just say dental pictures wouldnt have recognised what it used to be.
I am surprised at how many snakes other people have seen, we are on acreage backing onto bush and that is the first one seen here. I was on 8 acres before for 2 yrs, only saw one brown ( no longer with us) and a couple of green tree snakes up by the pool ( should still be there :)), thats it,
Regards

After getting bitten by a guarda snake a few years ago and the resulting ICU stay, I am not prone to leaving them alive around my kids.
In our old house the snakes used to come in from the laneway that ran along the back of our property. We used to dispatch them fairly quickly. (4 children & 2 dogs) A shovel is my friend!!!:p

Never seen one in our backyard Anya and we have a laneway behind with no front driveway.
But when we lived in Merredin, they loved the place - maybe it was the chook yard.

Apparently the baby browns are heaps more deadly than their grown ups. They hit you with all they have on their first bite, the adults meter the dose delivered in proportion to the size of the animals they hit.
I shifted him to a secluded wildlife space near a water source about 7km from town.
