I'd like to have the large diameter single side protection bars for my new 110. It appears that only the new dual small diameter side protection runners are available from Land Rover now. I've called three Land Rover dealers and each of the parts employees have been in their jobs for less than 6 months and don't have any history on the large diameter bars. I assume that the original large diameter will fit. Any recommendations on where I can get the old style bars and if they will fit the 2008 Defender?

Thanks

Mac

Are you asking about side steps? LR don't sell rock sliders so I'll assume you are. The older style side steps have thick black tubing and checker plate along their upper surface. These will fit the new Defender and your dealer should be able to order them for you ;) - my dealer in Qld could get them - I didn't want them though.

Scallops,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I'm looking for the ones you described. Which dealer do you use?

Thanks

Mac, where are you?

Do you mean like the thumbnail? This is the one fitted to Xtremes.

They are a good step, but don't offer much protection. In fact they hang low & get clobbered sometimes.

Max,

Yes, just like the thumbnail picture. I like the way it looks, but if it hangs to low, I may have to change my plans.

Thanks

If it's protection you're after - you can use checker sill plates, or stronger still, rock sliders. Many aftermarket options are available for sliders (and checker plate sill protectors). I have checker plate around my sills (genuine) as I'm using my vehicle as a touring machine rather than a hard core rock crawler.

I still would like to get the side bars that are in Max's photo. So far, I can't get my dealer or other dealers to tell me the model number. Scallops, I called your dealer's parts department and they didn't know, but said they would call me back ( three days and no call). My new Defender has arrived at the dealership.

Also, I'm told that Land Rover tow bars aren't going to be available until the end of the month. Any comments from dealership members?

I had hoped to have all the Land Rover accessories installed at the time the vehicle was delivered. I'm disappointed that it looks like I will not get the Defender with all the factory accessories.

It just doesn't seem like it should be so hard.

Thanks

Mac

Hello Mac,

I have some "Scorpion Racing" rock sliders much like LRHybreds photo. They are fantastic, and have protected the sills on my Cape York trip, without loosing any ground clearance. Around the $720 mark, but well worth it. Plan to tap into the bars, and turn them into small air tanks from my compressor, to pump up my tyres.
Look up Scorpion Racing web site. There are dealers in Australia.

Cheers,

Ken
