Installing an Electric Brake Controller

I'm going through my list of mods to my Disco in preperation for getting an off-road camper. One of these is to fit an Electric Brake Controller. From everything I've read on AURLO and elsewhere the Tekonsha Prodigy seems to be the best unit to get.

OK so that's taken care of what to buy, but how do I adjust the unit once installed. Installation seems straight forward, I've read the manuals on the Tekonsha Prodigy (http://www.tekonsha.com/prodig.html) site. But then it talks about adjusting the unit for the trailer. My intension is to drive out to the supplier of the trailer's site later in the year and get the trailer then, but I don't like the idea of fiddling around with thte controller in their work yard to set it up for the very long tow home.

Can anyone give me some advise, this is all new ground for me??:confused:

No stress and quite simple really ...

Hook the trailer on and do all your normal checks.

push the manual lever across to apply the brakes and turn the adjustment wheel so the display shows 6

Before you drive out of the yard, try the trailer brakes (with the manual lever on the controller) a couple of times to make sure they're working at low speed .... they'll prolly lock up the trailer wheels, if so wind the adjustment wheel back a bit.

Out on the road, whilst driving along .. hold the lever about half across (you'll feel where it grabs)to "warm up the brakes"

After a km or so pull over to a stop and braking should feel like it always does ...
if it feels like you're trying to stop with a trailer still pushing you... wind the brake adjustment up a bit (so the trailer helps more with stopping you)
if it feels like the trailer is pulling you up (or the trailer wheels lock up) ... wind it back abit.
(test again, if necessary, until you're happy)

you'll be doing all this on the fly in no time, and I find mine requires very little adjustment from trip to trip.

DM,EBAY is the go,there a couple of people sell them new regularly.HEAPS CHEAPER THAN THE SHOPS!!! Mine was $150 inc P/H
