Well, I'm home after an eventful day and, after a couple of beers, too many tacos and having cracked a nice bottle of red, I thought I'd start a trip report thread.

They say a picture tells a thousand words......well......

After a some technical chats at the camp site we set off in two groups to practice.
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/5239/pict0001nc1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
We practiced snatching...
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/4614/pict0013mc5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Which was just as well because all but 3 of us got stuck and had to be snatched out of the mire, some twice...
http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/2603/pict0021dn5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/4829/pict0023wm6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
One had to be winched...
http://img164.imageshack.us/img164/5519/pict0024pa3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Harry decided once wasn't enough...
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/8963/pict0025jh4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
The crowd was going wild...or were they worried because they hadn't had their turn yet? In hindsight I don't think there was much confidence in the group as most had snatchstraps already fitted and ready to go. I know I did, and just as well.
http://img164.imageshack.us/img164/5456/pict0027si7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
The shorty got through with no trouble at all...
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/3158/pict0029hq5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Stevo didn't enjoy the same outcome...
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/3218/pict0030tc3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Nor did Richard...
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/5849/pict0033mw7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Or Josh
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/5935/pict0035rj5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Or X-Box
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/5608/pict0037tw7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Somewhere there's some pics of my D3 sideways in the mire which I'm looking forward to seeing. Who's idea was it to take a different route through there?

Sorry there's no pics of the 109, too far out front!

Anyway, a great day as usual, thanks to Harry, Josh and Bolts for the instruction and Stevo for lunch:D.

PS: PM me with your email address if you want any hi res copies of the above.

Dam that looks like great fun, I was going to come down until drinks finished at 3am and my friends kids woke at 5.30am:( although I was warned that they would - didn't think it would have been sensible to drive on that little sleep hopefully i'll make the next trip

Are there many staying the night for more fun tommorrow?

G'day all,

Great day yesterday and good to see many new faces...and some old ones. Even though I only airred down a bit yesterday as was there more to fulfill my commitment as Chief BBQer, tyres were the winner of the day. 12 vehicles, 9 boggings, 3 through with Muddies. Great team work on getting the bogged vehicles through, was a great demo of real recoveries, especially Marks :p, wasn's sure which way he was going to end up, but snatched safely at the end. Really wanted to stay the night, as left when camp fire was going, next time :). Here are some pics

Hey, i had a great day out thanks for the members who help me winch out of the bog hole, ie climbing the hill to secure the winch rope, lending the extention strap while i sat in the car ready to start the winch nice and clean. The cook and his helpers did such a good job, we want them to come next time and cook. The photos are great once again. WhiteD3, the boys have to come on the next trip with the video camera. Thanks to all members that came to make it a good day.

Gents and ladies

Thanks for a great weekend for all, nice early start saw us arrive and set up camp in an ideal location under the trees with a great bbq area. Once camp was set up we gathered around and harry lead us through the technical part of the training and a walk around differant vehicles showing recovery points on the differant landies was to prove useful later in the day:o;). Once the therory was done we jumped into vehicles and went off to do some of the practical aspects of our training. It here we split into two groups with 6 vehicles in each group as marks photo show. Once we had run through snatch recovery and hill stall and starts we then went off for a casual drive around the park and back to camp where the groups meet again for a bit of lunch - done so well by Stevo and his kitchen staff ( thanks Tru and Ash for helping dad out again;)). Once everyone was well watered and feed it was time to do some more driving and we set off in convoy through the rain forest and into a well planned snatch and winch recovery training area with everyone getting hands on live pratical training:cool: as show with marks photos. Once we all cleared this we set off to the play area for everyone to have a general drive upand down hills through the wombats and then down the tracks. Then at beer o'clock time we head back through the park to camp, for that 1st cold one and a chance for all to have a chat discuss the day and each others vehicles. It was at this time the day trippers then slowly left us and headed home although some seeing the camp fire being lite and a few more cold ones coming out really wanted to stay:(:p.

That night we settled into good food, wine , beer and conversation around the camp fire where some us stayed up a lot later than the rest of us:p but we all had a good evening.

Sunday morning and we were up bright and early with packing up, breaky and by 8:15am we where all heading out the gate and heading home as per aprk rules other wise we had to pay for another full day in the park.

Thanks to harry, x-box and Josh for a big hand on the day and stevo for his cheif bbq and to all the members who made it such a great day.

p.s I see there where no photos of erics 109 or my D2 - I know we were up the front and didn't get stuck in anything:p but geez I thought there might have been 1 or 2 taken somewhere.

ps - thanks for the weekend bolts - really enjoyed it and it was good to have a yarn.

ok, this may be a result of not attending the dare.
but it must have needed a change of jocks.
josh, more info please.
and i might point out that presidents shouldn't do this, nor founding or committee members, nor club members.

and i might have got close to this myself on sat, but no one saw it, so it didn't happen.

Well - as a result of attending the DARE - I now have a high tensile steel bolt through my recovery hitch in my towbar - in place of the standard LR pin.

Thanks for the tip, Harry. ;)

While this works okay, potential for the bolt to bend in the towbar assembly is a bit iffy to me. I've heard of it happening with the pin bending in the tow hitch, also some types of straps won't fit (like ARB straps are too bloody wide). Not saying it's wrong, I just personally don't like doing it.

I bought a proper recovery hitch that goes into the HR towbar toungue for $50 off e-bay for project tight ****. It's a good bit of gear and reasnobly priced as well. I might actually change the HR towbar over and put it on the blue beast, pending how energetic I am.

trav, its allright, he means that he has a recovery hitch with a 'real' bolt through the tow bar instead of the normal pin and clip.
i have an aircraft bolt - you won't bend a 100 ton bolt!!
scallops, well done. now for the other bits!!

No worries, I think I misread that.

100 ton aircraft bolt, I'll have a go at bending one. Remember, I can break anything :D:D:D
