Using the spare tyre

Can anybody tell me what the sequence is for rotating the tyres

I want to use the spare, as when I change next time I will upgrade the size and I don't want to be left with a tyre I can't use (again)

I think the front move to opposing back and the back move directly forward to the front. You choose where you add in the spare, I'd choose the back.

I have 2 spares and just go spare->rear->front->spare on each side do this about every 6 months - I ony do about 9,000km a year. This way I get even ware on the tyres and they all get replaced at once.

I maintain that it is important to cross the front tyres over to opposing back positions:cool:

Last time I looked it up for Defender it was spare to left front, lf to lr, rf to rr, and lr to lf, rr to rf.

That doesn't make sense as the front tyres need opposing changes to even wear from their inners and outers. I'll keep at it the way I learned, but am interested if it really is recommended that way.

Well, I went through my pdf manual, and the paper owners manual and couldn't find a thing.

Pretty sure that being fixed axle and all that a Defender that is mechanically right should wear evenly across the face of the tyre.

I'm sure a more authoritative voice will chip in any moment.

Don't ya hate it when you can't find where you know something from?

NOTE: DO NOT attempt to interchange
tyres, e.g. from front to rear, as tyre wear
produces characteristic patterns
depending on their position. If tyre position is
changed after wear has occured, the performance
of the tyre will be adversely affected.

funny I only ever rotate front to rear, maintain side (IE left front to Left rear) and leave the spare off of the deck.

when I blow a tyre out the spare goes on and at the earliest opportunity I get a nother new tyre to compliment it across the axle. The good tyre from the axle goes up as the spare.
