g'day all
i am just about to give the disco an oil change for the first time but have come unstuck on the removal of the exhaust heat shield. how do i get to the bolt at the rear, do i need to remove the second battery for access so i can get to the filter. any tips appreciated.

I don't have a disco mate but on the TD5 fender you don't have to remove the heat shield to get to the filter. It's painful but if you let the engine cool it can be done with just a few swearwords and a leather strap oil filter remover.

You don't need to remove the heat shield but, as mentioned previously, if you let everything cool enough to get your hand onto the filter without burning it on the turbo, you can work the filter free through the available space.........only just. If you ever played tetris on the old 'puta you'll appreciate the skills learnt:D
Someone here mentioned slipping a plastic bag around the filter before removing, to catch the extra oil that always lands up on the engine and by default, on the garage floor. Sounds like an idea worth a try?
