I'm not really sure. I honestly think that the 98 is over valued and for that price you might get a newer again D2 V8 which has more room and newer bits.

Depends what you want to do with it

The TDi 300 because:
- lower priced
- less gumpf to break and go wrong
- Better mileage out of each tank

$5,500 is quite a price difference even considering the '98 is 1 year and 50,000Km newer.

Anyway - that's my take on it.

I'd go the TDi - that looks a reasonable deal

Go the Tdi Sonny. Economy + less electronics to worry about as well.

Seen TD5 D2 for that price :o

I would go for the TDi belive me V8 use alot of juice and your a fool if you think fuel prices will go down.:)

we had a D1 3.9 v8 which the mises used to go to work . She used a tank a week. So we changed it for a 300TDi D1 Same truck same weight , The tank now last for 2.5 weeks doing the same trip .

Hi, i would buy the deisel, more economical than the v8. If you do offroading the difference in price, plus fuel savings would get you a winch, a locking diff, etc.

TDI
Cheaper to buy and cheaper to run. Price difference would buy a lot of spares.

Until the diesel breaks down.

A good V8 motor can be bought for two and a half grand.
A diesel will be three times that :D

Ever think it may be because the diesel outlasts the V8 by quite a signifigant amount?
Anyway, you keep thinking this way whilst us moronic diesel owners buy up the decent vehicles.

I think the V8 is possibly the better buy.

The V8 if serviced properly, will go & go & go. The Tdi needs regular expensive maintenance. Pumps & injectors, heads every 150,000 kms etc. The cost of running evens out over time.

And check what's been done - or not done - to the Tdi. If it has been freshened up recently, go for it. If not, I'd say the V8.

Firstly, I did not say "moronic diesel owners", they are your words. :D

Secondly, not all diesel engines do high mileages without problems and neither do V8's. However there is a huge difference in the cost of repairs :)

I'm quite happy to run a V8 on LPG and reap the benefits of the difference in fuel costs, longevity and a savings in repairs. If you do the sums, the extra thousands saved in diesel repairs, buy a hell of a lot of LPG :D
