there is no issue with it as when you turn it back on everything should be how you left it... Their is however a big BUT!
With some computers they incur errors and Vista seems to enjoy doing this the most. When they try to come back from their snooze they have an error message then everything shuts down and you may lose things. Now I'm not saying this is common but it does happen and it happens in the middle of your thesis which you forgot to save.

here is one perfect example what vista is; Windows Vista Sleep Problems - Erwyn van der Meer (http://bloggingabout.net/blogs/erwyn/archive/2006/12/11/Windows-Vista-Sleep-Problems.aspx)
And when i google it all that comes up are pages about how it stuffs up and people lose everything and how to disable it.

Well a google search is unlikely to come up with pages and pages about how it works like a charm and doesn't break anything is it?
People only post when there's an issue, not when it works fine
Having said all that I have let my PC go to sleep for the past 6 months (since I've been using Vista) and have yet to have a problem - except after one update it stopped going to sleep and would only go to screen saver..

True, but there are a heap of patches for this problem which both Microsoft have said they have not been able to fix yet and also some other programmers have written.

I've lost lots of things, like Word documents, supposed to have autosaved, didn't save, all was lost when it woke up. Or, it didn't wake up from sleep and open documents/editable files were lost when I rebooted.
Not in Vista, but not hard for it to happen. These days I close any applications that are likely to crash before setting it to sleep.
Cheers

me thinks it is more likely something doing background i/o such as a virus scanner or similar that is actually causing the crook file i/o during going to sleep or waking from sleep, thus causing a lock up.
64bit oses in general is much more prone to this than the 32bit versions imho
yet to see any real 100% real and tangible use for a 64bit version of windows other than a good tool for emptying wallets.. it might see more than 3 gig of ram but it is useless when it locks up and you lose the contents anyway :P
btb fitted an overclocked inno3d 8800gt to my box today, hmmm
the difference is noticeable from the std clocked version.. i think them bullets are hitting me quicker than ever in ghost recon :P
