Land Cruiser goes snap!

Well this morning on the way to work i had the very enjoyable sight of seeing a 70 series land cruiser ute snap something bigtime in the back end of the drive line, I'M guessing an axel or diff. He was at a set of traffic lights on almost level ground too he wasn't even taking off in a hurry, just started to accelerate forward, then bang.... no more forward movement :p . I did turn around and drive past again to see if he needed a tow, I couldn't resist the chance to rescue a land cruiser, but he managed to get it going after he locked his hubs.

Another win for land rover i say :twisted:

When I was a young 'un mum was driving the old 2a down to the shops, it had just made it successfully on one of the many trips around this fine land, but decided to snap the rear axle in the suburbs:o.
Mum just threw the lever and drove it home on the front diff and told dad it was broken.:D

Not so easy in Sydney peak hour traffic when it happens on Taverners Hill with the freewheel hubs disengaged, as happened to a LROCS member some years ago.

The TLC event I enjoyed was when a TLC 80 series driver decided to use the absent LH lane on Epsom Rd Rosebery NSW. There is a kink in the road with a strategically placed power pole right at the apex and unfortunately the 8 ton pantecnicon rounded out the kink without leaving sufficient room for the non-existent lane. The TLC ended up a little narrower with a power pole where the rear side door used to live.

This all happend live in panorama vision right in front of me, I would have liked to capture it on video but alas no one was up to a second take. :D:D

No I didn't offer to tow him off the pole - the 8 tonner was a little heavy for my winch.

The funniest thing was watching him crunch through the gears to try and get it to drive. I will definitely be bringing up this event next time a toymotor driver tells me about rovers breaking diffs and axles :p

A mate of mines father blew the transfer case of his 40 series reversing out of his dead flat driveway (60 year old, not a hoon). they think that something was floating around in the case and got picked up when he reversed. Was a bit hard to tell though with all the broken gears and teeth in the transfer case after the event!:p
