Does anyone out there in S1 land have a photo of the spare wheel mount in the tub of an 86/88 S1. Not the bonnet mount, as Leon has one of these, but the one that mounts the tyre vertically behind the bulkhead.

LWB are different to SWB as I have the parts books, but the detail is not good enough for me to work out where it all fits. I have most of the parts for the mount, but a picture is worth a thousand words as they say.

G'day Numpty, I have the mounts but nothing to take the pic with. I'll see what I can do.

Numpty,

I have a bonnet mounted spare and decided to move it inside for the trip to Cooma. Found enough details in the spare parts book and the father-in-law made a reasonable copy.
Main bracket fits in the centre of the bulkhead, problem is that the top of the bulkhead sits below the centreline of the wheel so when you tighten up the retaining bolt the bottom of the wheel kicks out and the top leans into the back of the centre seat. To stop this there are two plates that fit to the top of the bulkhead either side of the mounting bracket to give something for the tyre to bear against.

Mine is only temporary and definitely not original, if you need a picture let me know. I'll be painting the brackets tonight & mounting tomorrow.....

In the parts book, it shows another piece above the main bracket (which I have) and I think it attaches to it. The book does not show how this part fixes. The two plates which afix to the bulkhead either side are part of the LWB fixing, but not used for the SWB.
I will wait and take some photos at Cooma.

G'day Numpty, sorry about the wait.

The wheel bracket. Or holder-innerer.

The bracket and mount. Poor pic due to light.

Numpty,

I beg to differ....my parts manual (.pdf copy) shows the support brackets on the 86" & 88". Unless the bulkhead was a different height the wheel will tip over regardless of wheelbase.

Colin

Sorry Colin, Yes 86/88 are the same, when I say LWB I mean 107/109. They are different, as the tub on these is a lot deeper.

PM sent anyway;)
