I've been using the base Eee model (Linux) all week - works extremely well but I wish the battery life was more than 3.5 hours (doesn't compare to the Psion Series 7 I am used to).
I suggest you hold off for a short while until the larger screen model with WinXP preinstalled hits these shores. It was announced earlier in the week I believe. If it's priced competitively you won't go wrong.

And presumably much higher price as well as specs?
The interesting thing is that the success of the Eee shows that there is a market for a much more minimal portable - time will tell just how minimal is best.

It's interesting to consider the Eee in the context of whether low end computers are already powerful enough to do what most people need. After all, when typing the thing spends most CPU cycles waiting for you to type the next letter.
I am introducing them as a trial at work for people who already carry stuff around and couldn't face adding a full size laptop to the load. We will be using wireless broadband to access our network using Citrix. "3" are coming to the party with some loan modems next week, and as most of our clients are in the Perth metro area I have great hopes of productivity improvements (we are a non-profit service provider) and happier staff.
Fingers crossed...

An interesting prospect, you'll have to keep us posted to say how it works out. We/work spends $$$$$ on notebooks but in reality most of what's done is email and word.
We also had a 3 trial, seemed pretty good for what it is.
