Hi all,
What Im after is a good marine gps with color scale etc and charts that I can also load uptopo maps, this side of gps'ing is new to me, that I can us when I go for a trip in the bush. I allready have a garmin 72 handheld which I use in the boat and it is truly briliant. I am not a full quid on the land based mapping software so I need to know whats good in terms of detailed mapping software for the bush that can be loaded onto a marine gps and garmin is my preference at present. look forward to any coment or input

I use a Garmin Quest because it fits anywhere I am, Car, bike or Boat, runs for 6-8 hours off the internal battery and takes marine maps.
You can install different maps but I think your options are fairly limited for topo style. Screen is only a little fella too, suits me, may not suit you.

As a marine gps, there are gazillions and lots with similar features but very different price tags.

I use a Humminbird Matrix 97 and its great :) It has GPS, fish finder, electronic barometer, the fish finder transducer has single/dual/quad beam settings so I can see what's before, behind and each side of the boat as well as below, can store full trip data with PC based software, uses c-map software, gets regular updates from Humminbird, can be used to store images, allows various sonar frequencies for salt/fresh/dirty water, allows you to set the fish size you're looking for, supports up to four transducers (IIRC),... and it can be hooked up to a PC/laptop using charting software, autopilot systems,...
