G'day all, How old were you when you first went camping and how old were your kids when you first took them?

We started taking our kids from about 8 weeks old :D

Don't recall how Old I was when I first went camping but do recall a very wet camping trip at about 5 yrs old (Bushie?...do you remember how old we were?)

X2... My lad was camping at 8 weeks...

Took him "offroad" once he had the strength the support his head.

don't take me wrong she doesn't mind it her self we camped for weeks on end driving from NSW to WA we didn't have our little one at the time

my wife thinks very little of the idea of taking infants camping further then a caravan park due to emergencies, to good of a mother, yeah some times you can be to good

Didn't go camping until I was about six due to petrol rationing. I think my boys were camping about the same age. Grandchildren were camping before one for at least the most recent one, although I don't remember the exact age, or when the older ones started.

I was about 7. We just came back from my little girl's first camping trip. She's 3 and loved every minute of it.

I was about 3 the first time I slept in a tent. Holidays were typically in caravans until I was about 10 or 12, after that, always tents... I spent at least 2-3 weekends a month under canvas as a teen.

Cheers all, we are debating if I take my oldest Harry to Cooma and I'm camping at Snowtels. He is Two and a half and very adventurous.

Cheers again, Easo

11 years old I use to go by myself and hiking quite often. Usually Heathcote National Park as it was close and much nicer then Royal. Would head out almost every weekend.

Would often do mountain bike trips through there which was great.

My parents took me to Bendethra when I was 12 weeks old and the High Country when I was 12 months old. It snowed.

I was 6 months old and spent 2 weeks on a fishing trip on the coast in East Gippsland. May have been on the Benodore River.

Our oldest went on her first big outback trip at 18 months, for 6 weeks. And they were both seasoned outback travellers before either was 2 years old. And nearly all of our overnight camps are in the bush, ie sans facilities.

6week for my eldest.

He had done a 4month 4WD/Camping lap of Oz before he was 1. Cape, Gulf, Kakadu, GRR, Bungle Bungles, Ningaloo, Stirling Ranges etc.

His first time to the beach was Cable Beach in Broome. We live the opposite of the country.

I now have 3 boys. Took the youngest (5 months) 4WDriving to Crystalvale yesterday.

I can remember the trip but not how old we were but some where around the 5-8 yo would be about right.

My eldest was camping from a very early age, and did her first simpson crossing at 6 months.

My parents used to take me camping in the Flinders Ranges virtually since I was born - I've seen photos from old camping trips in what was at the time a near new Vanguard.

My daughter didn't get to go camping until we moved up to the NT when she was about 3. My son was about 1 at the time. Used to camping with the kids regularly when we were up there.

If I ask the kids (24 and 22) if they are interested in a camping / fishing trip these days, they look at me like I've got a contagious disease.

At least there will be plenty of eyes to look out for him :D

Guess it depends on how good a time you want to have...might be better to leave him at home, kick up your heels, take him for his first trip some other time with less people about and less distractions for you ;)

If it was over night I'd have no dramas, but I'm staying three. Looks like I need to take him some where soon.
