Pretty sure 'discokid' has a gen III in his Defender pickup,
used in Offroad racing / Australian Safari, etc.

apart from the weight... (aren't they still cast iron blocks?)
not much,
*chev's are popular, as they use alloy blocks, (and cheap?)

correct me if I'm wrong though...
I haven't kept up-to date lately on V8 motors...

or if your keen to spend dollars,
*get a Euro V8, like an Audi, BMW, Jag, etc..

or Jap stuff,
*Toyota / Nissan both have been making them for ages.

*Sorry for the offensive words

Lexus V8's are bigger across the heads than a big block:eek:, thay are freaking massive;)

Zuffen on OL has one in a Rangie

I'm currently wiring one in a jag, makes my engine bay look empty with a little gen3 in there, they are BIG

Yes I still have 5.7lt gen 3 in my defender

Thinking of going 6lt or bomb up the 5.7lt some more before this years safari

We also have another defender racing with us with an all alloy chev in it (Rodec or something similar) and a 90 being built with a donavan chev so plently of experience in high HP applications in the west

Do you need some info on the conversion??

yeah that would be fantastic discokid,

you looking at selling yours soon maybe then hey?

thinking of maybe a t700 as i think they are similar length to zf's, can't have anything too long obviously as wheelbase is tiny.

mate any info you got would be great, can email if any easier? archiscapes@hotmail.com

cheers again mate

Ok so far after getting info from my mechanics engineer i will i only be able to go to a 5L motor in the wombat. so no gen III:mad:

looks like if i do the swap my best choice probably is a stroked rover 3.9L, or maybe a lexus V8, but they would be too much of a missio n to fit.

Apparently they are changing the mod laws in QLD in a couple of months and the engineer doesn't know if they will enlarging or reducing the allowable displacement for conversions...

I would get a second opinion on that, if it had a v8 in it as standard a 5.7 or 6.0 litre Chev should be OK, without going into what else has to be done. How else are 6.5 litre diesel v8s able to be put into Toyotas etc that were originally 4.2litre straight sixes.

into a 90? the weight of the vehicle will have a big effect on it, and in australia, the biggest a county/defender has had was a 3.5L..... extra factory cubes will have a bearing on it too i think

as for weight, sure, clevelands are heavy, but a windsor with alloy heads and alloy intake doesnt weigh too much!

i will looking further into it,but another engineer has said no more then 4.6L, i still think rovers are a grey area no matter what you need to know!! i think you can apply to have a 'relaxation' as such, but i don't want to mess around with things that may alter insurance, etc.

still more homework to do.

Plus my mechanic guarantees me his stroked rover motors eat 5L commodores, etc for breakfast! plus the ease of everything bolting together no adaptors, etc

hey sprint by the way, at 2.2T EMPTY my little wombat is no 'light weight' although i'm sure the isuzu would be nearly half that!

Sorry, but that is a load of bull. I have had a stroked Rover motor and while good are not even a close match for a 5litre Holden, especially an injected one. I would really like to see his guarantee and how he is going to offer it.:o

I had a 4.2 (stroked 3.5) RRC. Was a great motor and a huge improvement over the standard 3.5/3.9. It was gas research system (dedicated lpg). Do not get me wrong these are a good engine and when stroked are even better. This is a good rover V8 link "RPi Engineering - Specialised Rover Engines" (http://www.v8engines.com/)
Remember stroking these engines to 5litres is maximum and leaves very little room for tolerance.
I have also had 5 litre Holden powered vehicles and you really need to compare apples with apples. Comparing a stroked 5litre Rover motor with ugrades to a stock 5 litre Holden is not comparing similar products.
Hope this has not put you off. In fact the two engines are very similar ina lot of respects.
Cheers
