Move into our house last year and noticed that there is a huge aerial on our roof, previous owner isn't sure what it was used for as he didn't install it, so it must be about 10 years old maybe !

Can anyone tell me what it would be used for ?

Here are some pics :

It looks like a CB aerial on top of the long pole, but can't tell unless I pull it down (BIG JOB!)

Front view of connector. Isn't that a CB radio connector ? anyway of telling if it is UHF or AM ? or do HAM radios use the sane connector too !

I'd say your right it's a 27mhz. I can't see the aerial in your pic though only the support pole I think?

If it is short it may only be a scanner aerial.

Generally if it is a serious radio user it is a much more elaborate set up for HAM and Amature radio.

Considering age being at least 10 years 27 mhz was the big thing.

Thats not a PL259, its a "N" connector by the looks of it, which is used for High power low loss aplications...

UHF or Ham use...

Whats the antenna look like??

i might have a use for it....;)

will take a better pic in the morning, looks like a mobile phone aerial. if it is a scanner one I'll keep, otherwise i might change it later on for a scanner one !

sclarke's right..... it's an N type connector that appears to be connected to RG213 coaxial cable.

Connector and coax are of the low loss variety which would indicate they were used for the VHF/UHF spectrum.

Picture supplied is of ther mast.... not the antenna (at least I don't see one!!)

If the business end of the coax is connected to anything up there, my guess is that it's probably a UHF CB or ex commercial UHF antenna.

Post a pic of the top of the mast if you can.

Way to small for 27mhz. And yes, I did not notice connector or cable as my comp had issues viewing those pics.

Uhf or scanner.

Its a bit hard to tell from that photo, but it looks like a colinear gained omnidirectional antenna mounted on top of that long pipe.

It could be for HAM 2 Metres (VHF), or Marine VHF. (but unlikely in Upwey) or commercial UHF . But it's most likely for a UHF CB.

You'd only be able to tell for sure by pulling it down and looking for the model/freq range etc.

The connector is an "N" Type.
