Howdy guys . as most of you have seen my "rangie v's disco" thread and asked what to look for in a rangie . Well what do i need to look out for in a disco . Now fingers crossed i will get a 94' to 97' model . Diesel would be great but not fussed with the v8 either . And would prefer manual if possible . any info would be a great help , Thanks :)

Disco's don't have that many, Mick.
Pick an auto, it is stronger than a manual box.
Try for a 97/98, it has airbags (bit of nose protection :-))
There are a few thread in here on rust in the roof and floor.
Mine has neither.
V8 is less trouble, but the Oiler guys won't agree :D
Need to disagree on a couple of things.
ZF Auto is not stronger than the R380 Gearbox.
94 onwards have airbags, not all models but most.
V8 is a better engine in some respects, but when it comes to long life and economy. Go the 300tdi

Discoveries are a well balanced very capable 4wd in either manual or auto, oiler or gas guzzling V8.
My only suggestion is to look for one that has a proven service history, and get under it to see how much of road work it has done.
accessories dont add much to the purchase cost but cost a bloody heap to put on so also look for one with some fruit on it, there are some very well set up ones out there that really havent seen much action for quite reasonable prices.
So long as you dont get a lemon you will be very happy with it.
Cheers and good luck

Pull up the carpet in the rear and check the floor for rot. It's their weakest spot for metal worm.
Mechanically it's pretty much the same as a Classic Rangie.
