Series 2 bits wanted.

G'day, just wondering if any one had a standard front bar for a Series 2 laying around that they want to sell, I am rebuilding Daisy at the moment & would like to get rid of the truck size bullbar I have.

I am going to be on the hunt for some tierod ends & other bits a pieces.

Also does anyone know an Aussie source for the chequer plate guard tops or does someone here have the skill to make them for me?

1. I've got one, but its pretty rough! I replaced it on mine! I assume you are talking about a bumper bar - there was no standard bull bar for them. (or perhaps a large number of standards!)

2. Be aware that there are two different types of tie rod ends - fully threaded (late Series 3 on) and with half an inch unthreaded (Series 1-3) - and it DOES matter which you use - need to make sure the bit that clamps on the tie rod end is the same (threaded/unthreaded) as the tie rod end. Mixing them is unsafe, and although yours should have the older type, it could have one or more of the tubes or ends from a later model.

3. I made mine from sheet with no previous experience. Mark up the shape on a cardboard template, and cut two bits big enough to cut to size. Drill the mounting holes and bolt them together back to back and then cut to size.

I did the straight cuts using a woodworking circular saw and then smoothed the sides and rounded to corners to match the template using a woodworking planer. This method ensures the two are mirror images of each other. Woodworking power tools work well with aluminium provided they are carbide tipped. Ideally they should have zero rake teeth but they will work OK provided you are aware that the saw will try to pull in, and only take a very shallow cut.
