well mine doesnt have them then! that sucks a bit. i wasnt game to adjust them by hand incase i was too dense to see the controls, and could have damaged the motors.

Hi Simonr23,
In 2002 LRA decided to bring to our shores the Base Moel Disco2.
That year it was called the "S", It came with steel wheels, no drinks holder under the centre dash console, no cargo blind, no headlight washers, front grille wasnt color coded, no 5th door pocket, no cruise control, no "Factory" towbar Hitch & yes no electric mirrors.
If u need a cargo blind or cruise control PM me, i have a few.

thats really wierd. i have all those options (and i just discovered tonight a cd stacker :) ) just no elec mirrors. i'm wondering if maybe the last guy decided to trade the mirror control for the spotlights? otherwise the car is awesome to drive. i just need the cdl kit. has a 2" aftermarket suspension kit. not sure of the brands though. springs are yellow and shocks are white. also arb bullbar, arb(or factory standard?) towbar, safari snorkel and opposite lock driving lights(well thats the brand of the lens covers, cant see any other writing. i'll post pics in the pic thread when i take some of my own.

I think you'll find that the 98/99 S model was the only model introduced here with steel wheels, but it should still have electric mirrors, the S is still sold here but it has alloys and not Steel wheels like mine, i think the steel wheel S model is still available in England though, although the English S model is very different to the model we got, i think it was like the Defender with vinyl floors, manual window winders and so on.
My Disco is the base model for Australia and i have electric windows and mirrors, but i don't have the stuff the SE comes with, ACE, SLS, DUAL AIR, leather, front fog lights and so on.
Simon, the knob for the mirrors should be about a half inch in diameter and have R and L either side of it.
I'd say the previous owner has removed them if there not on the car now.
Baz.

more to the point is there any way of adjusting the mirrors from inside? if they were manual adjust then they would have a stick coming out of the internal face where the mirrors are mounted.. if that isnt there i cant see LR adding the old style ball mounted mirrors, so the guy has probably ripped the control out (maybe he broke it)
seems a strange place to put the switch given the several blank spots on the side of the speedo for switches...
Thanks
Steve

This is where the mirror adjuster should be

If you bought the vehicle that you posted about, the white one, then that's the same interior as mine and it should have electric mirrors.
Mine doesn't have flares like yours, which is another standard feature on the SE, but an option on the S.
Under the steering column is a drop down door, look in there it may be still connected but the previous owner has put it there when he put the spottie switch in.

thanks guys. yeah i bought the one that i had the other thread for. i havent even looked under that dash panel yet. good idea.
there isnt any manual knobs inside the car. either the switch is hidden or if i need to adjust them manually i risk wrecking the gears in the motors.

Do all Aussie D2s have the full electronic climate control???
Has this vehicle got the full electronic climate control,ie an electronic display of the aircon as compared to the 2 manualy operated temp controls???
I only ask as I havent seen a D2 with the older D1 style aircon controls in aust, but have seen plenty of pics in the pommy Landy mags of D2s with this setup.
Is this possibly a private import vehicle???
Just a thought.

Hi Baz,
I dont wish to be rude, but you are incorrect.
LR has changed the naming on the D2 approximately 4 times throughout its short life.
In 2002 LR did indeed release for a short period The "S" model base D2.
which was as i had stated.
A quick guide-why insurance companies hate LR Disco2
99-00my was known as DA5 or PA7 (Diesel-Auto-5seat)(Petrol-Auto-7seat) The public still wanted to call it the as per series D1 S, SE & ES. But the dealerships had to make what was given to us & decipher the "Codes"
01my was known as Discovery (Base), SE & ES
02my S, SE & ES
03-04my's Discovery (Base-5 seater), S(7Seater), SE(7 Seater, replaced ES naming) & HSE with everything.
Simon, the plug for the mirrors will be under the dash as the wiring is there. You may only need a switch.
I also have one of them from my old D2. as i now have folding Mirrors on my D2. If u want one let me know..just pay postage if needed. I am in Melbourne.

Hi Andrew,
All Aus delivery vehicles were ordered with Full Climate control.
This is an option but on our trim levels it did not appear.
I know UK vehicles have this option & have seen a few imports with it as well. I have seen a few wreckers remove the HEVAC unit & replace with the old style rotary & cable system.
Just something less to break i suppose.:)

sniegy,
there are 3 plugs that have no connection under the dash panel. if your offer is still there i'll gladly take the switch and any wiring it still has attached.
my car is an aus delivered model, has the digital climate control and all the other accesories listed earlier. 10/02 is the build date on the plate on the front right wheel arch area.
on a separate note, does anyone know what the 2 plugs under the bonnet are that sit in line with the wipers?

Hey Pete, the 2002 S, was it released with steel wheels? because as far as i'm aware only the first model 98/99 had steel wheels all "S" models from 2000 on had alloys and over that period until the last model there were 3 different types of alloys as well as 16x7, 16x8 (which i didn't know about) and 18" rims.
Mine is an 01 "S" model or (base model)

Hi Baz,
When the S model was released it did come with steel's 16 x 7.
Our dealership had bought a fair few, but customers didnt want alloys, & am also aware that a lot of dealers did fit alloys from there stock (wheel swaps) as we did.
In 98/99 when the D2 hit our shores we werent supposed to have steel wheels at all apart from the spare. LR did takes steps to rectify most of the vehicles but some customers did want the steels.
All the Diso's bought into Aus came std with Alloys of some description as u pointed out-16 x 7, 16 x 8 & 18 x 8.
The only one was the 2002 "S" which was advertised with Steels.
Baz, does yours have all the features? that i listed previously that was missing from the "S". Because if it does i doubt yours is an S then...;)

Simon,
PM me yor address & its yours.
Another quick check is to remove the triangle piece on your inside door towards the mirror. Gently prize this away from the top & it will unclip via 2 lugs at the bottom...See if there is any wire coming from the mirror assemblies & from the loom. If there is a connection there then all u need is the switch.
If the mirror doesnt have wiring coming from it(under the foam) then the mirrors arent electric. But electric ones can be fitted at the cost of a mirror assembly...
Those 2 plugs are for heated windscreen. 1 each side.

Mine has elec mirrors, cruise, rear door pocket, drink holder (not that any drink bottle will fit in it) so i guess mine is the SE.
Thanks Pete, Baz.

Well all you need to do is go to a wrecker and get a switch, remove the spottie switch and put the mirror switch back where it belongs:D

i should have said that the wire is coming from the car, not the mirror. i need new mirrors i believe to plug the existing wires into. is that correct? plus the switch of course.

Yep, if the mirrors you have aren't the elctric type ones, you could put the spottie switch next to the mirror adjusting toggle switch.
I'd say money had alot to do with why he replaced them with the non elec ones.

Hi Simon,
That sux..:(
I would agree with Baz, that the cost of replacing the originals with the same again can be damn expensive & probably why the owner declined.
Keep your eye on e-bay, sometimes they come up & can be a bargain.;)
