... to a little oiler.
A 300tdi D1 should be parked in my driveway tommorow night, pics will come:).
We plan to do some more remote touring in the next few years, plus I want to have a crack at Bio.
McRover, feel free to slag me after bagging whimpy landrover diesels all this time:D:D:D, Pedro, feel free to weep openly.
One 97 V8 on LPG will be leaving the family after Easter sometime so PM if you're looking for one folks.

Would like to hear how you find the running cost of the V8 V Diesel... I am thinking of going to a V8 on gas (auto) from a 300tdi manual

My maths so far says straight from the bowser I'll be going backwards a little. There's not much in it mind you.
But therein lies my interest in Bio, plus LPG & Petrol can reach outrageous prices outside of built up areas (yeh so can diesel). Really the range was the issue and as I say we do have the intention to get away a bit more now, been tied down a bit the last few years and the V8 suited us perfectly.

My '96 on LPG gets around 300 km/70l @ say $0.60/l = $42.00.
If TDi gets around 10l/100km, that's 30l/300km @ say $1.50/l = $45.00.
So, as you say, not much in it; but the range...:)

Bugger, it has to be re-presented on Monday with fresh pads.
I was hoping to fit it out with DB this weekend ready for Easter trip.
Bugger. Oh well, got plenty of work to do to the trailer anyhow.

I have to agree with you on that Ray, I couldnt Keep up with you in your race car.......
The overtaking is the thing that I miss as you really have to think about when to do it in a 300TDI Disco.

Mines fuelled right up, a 130 with rack, bullbar, side steps, 255/85 MT's and normally weighs around 2700kg over the weighbridge and I average 10.8-11 l/100km. Double checked the odo yesterday against the odo check on the highway and it was virtually spot on at 5km.

Mine I have found just isnt consistant so it's not really worth me entering a debate on economy but I have got between 9.5lt/100kms and 21lt100kms of which I can put down to differences in load (e.g.towing a caravan/horse float or loaded up with the rack on) or driving into a bad head wind or even mechanical problems like a leaking lift pump or blocked air filter.
Ive also found that Diesel isnt consistant quality in Vic which can play havock with ecomomy as well.
As far as Rom Mc's comments go, 300TDI's rarely break down if they have been well looked after so that isnt really a problem as long as you get a good one to start off with and all other parts other than the engine wear out the same as on a V8 one so there would be no difference there other than a few drive train componants may recieve a bit more of a thrashing with the V8's due to the driver wanting to hear that awsome note all the time at full throttle:twisted:
If range is the main reason for the change then the change is worth it because as stated time and time again, they are about the same in cost to run and maintain and it's not worth starting another debate over it.
If anyone is interested in the debate then do a search, there have been some extremely interesting ones about which is better.:p

The best I can offer so far, I've been far too busy alienating my neighbours:angel: with the work on the box trailer to get ready for the tent top to fit.
7506
I slid under it last night to have a sticky as I bought it virtually sight unseen (I've never done that before), just having had an independent inspection done by MR. I have found a small problem already, there are no oil leaks, not even a weep.
Should I loosen something?

Gawd, I'm ****ing blood:eek:. SWMBO drove it home the other night and she did comment that it was a bit stiffer than ours. I went for a run on some local roads I know and keroist this thing rides like a dray. It is waaaay over suspended. It's aparently brand new (and looks it), has Lovells shocks and blue springs which I gather are Lovells badged whatever (going to search in a min & find out more). I'll check what's in the tyres tommorow when they've cooled but this feels much more than that, even feels like the springs may be too heavy, might be swapping my LRAs into it afterall (and konis no question) was hoping to avoid too much work:angel:. Ah well such is life.
And a pyro just went on the shortlist, this ain't no V8:D.
Whistle down that snorkle with the window down sounds good tho.;)
