My yahoo email account seems to attract these.
Is this for real.
I naturally responded to the email, you can read my sincere reply after it.
Warm Greetings!
Forgive my indignation if this message comes to you as a surprise and
may
offend your personality for contacting you without your prior consent
and
writing through this channel. I got your contact from a professional
database
found in internet while searching for a reliable and honest person that
will
be an anointed steward in a vision very dear to me.
I am Mrs. Suzan bailey person from Puerto Rico undergoing medical
treatment. I
am married to Dr. Castillo Rodrique who was a gun runner supplying arms
and
ammunition to warring factions in Africa before he died in the year
2004. We
were married for eleven years without a child. He died after a brief
illness
that lasted for only four days. Since his death I decided not to
re-marry or
get a child outside my matrimonial home. When my late husband was alive
he
deposited the sum of 11.8 Million Pounds Sterlings (Eleven Million,
Eight
Hundred Thousand Pounds) with a Financial company. Presently, this
money is
still with the Financial company/Bank.
Recently, my doctor told me that I would not last for the next three
months
due to cancer problem. Though what disturbs me most is my partial
paralysis.
Having known my condition I decided to donate this fund to an
organization or
individual that will utilize this money the way I am going to instruct
herein.
I want an organization or individual that will use this to fund, women
and
youth groups, victims of war, environmental protection, charities,
orphanages
and widows or properties for orphanage homes. It is said that blessed
is the
hand that giveth.
I took this decision because I don't have any child that will inherit
this
money and as a part of restitution for the atrocities of my husband
which I
tacitly supported. I don't want a situation where this money will be
used in
an ungodly manner, hence the reason for taking this bold decision.
I am not afraid of death hence I know where I am going. I know that I
am going
to be in the bosom of the Lord. If you consider yourself adequately
equipped
morally and
spiritually for this mission, please send me a brief memo of how you
intend to
use the funds.
Thank you and God bless.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs. Suzan Bailey

Oh my God that is a really sad story, I have pity on you that you have
to resort to this sort of email communication to spread your lies in a

As I said it's a Yahoo email address I use. If it gets bombarded I will start up a new one, end of story.
I never use my real email address for anything. Like forum registering, to get passwords sent from registering, entering warranty details, comps or any unsolicted mail . That way I have kept my real personal email address clean from crap.
So I have been spam and virus free for ages. I never download anything from my Yahoo mail to my computer either.

Here we go again, Ok lets not post anything in general chat.
Then no one gets hurt, offended or nose out of joint.
Lets restrict freedom of speech. I get over anything posted on this forum as I have an open mind, if I agree or not, I repect the posters right to post. But it this post is so crappy then can the mods delete it and I won't loose any sleep over it.
I will become insensed and only post factual stuff concerning Land rover relevant stuff. But then that would become repititous as most posts have been covered before, so they are generally repeats. So lets lock all forum and only have a search button. Then any one can just search the relevant section and this site can become a library.
I will no reply to this any more. mods can lock it or delete it, feel free to do what they must.
I'm sorry to offended or bored anyone.:nazilock:

This is purely a personal response and I quite understand that others may see things differently.
I am actually pleased that you posted that original email. Like you I am pretty careful about who gets my important email address and I do have a webmail account that I can abandon if spam becomes a problem.
The downside of this is that I never get to see any of the famous scam emails, not even the Nigerian ones.
My natural curiosity means that I often wonder what is in those scam emails.
So now I know. I found it hilarious. It went from one sob story to another and just got better and better. (Although the grasp of English vocabulary, syntax and idiom didn't improve.)
Thanks for the post.
I hadn't read much good comedy fiction lately.

Tombraider was not banned for this thread... he asked to have his account deleted.
I do not personally know what has brought this on and want Tombraider to have a chance to think about it (if anyone has any idea on the reasoning please PM me)... He was also deleting a lot of his threads which i feel are of use to the land rover community, Banning was a quick solution to stop anything rash happening.
Deleting his account is not reversable... a banning is.

Sometimes, I think the "Quote" button on forums plus the non-Internet savvy combined is an accident waiting to happen.
You have more patience than me - if I owned the board and people posted garbage or quoted pages more than they needed to, I'd zap the post and PM them the reason! (Perhaps that's why I wasn't very well liked by my users back in the days when I was a network admin!)

Yes, some threads are pointless, I'm sure we all have posted up some pointless threads, I know I have :D. But like I said you have a choice to read or be involved with it. Who has the right to talk on anyone else's behalf?? Like other threads where people post " Hey Mods, please shut this down, cause they don't like the content or they are losing their arguement or perspective.
Dunno Tombie, seems like a reasonable bloke but for someone who made a point of saying if you dont like it Put on your big girls panties, then spits the dummy, is kinda hypocritical. I've had my share of butting heads in the past, been challenged on views, been targetted directly and vis a vis. Hence I would never have a break down over something that happened on here. I have no idea what everyone's problem is - why is everyone so damned sensitive? It's pretty scary in my opinion when people are too scared to voice their opinion in the fear of upsetting people. I rarely read anything offensive on this forum, yet people get so upset. I don't get it.
People shouldn't be petrified to put up posts which other people may not like. I thought general chat was just that, general chat. If you have a conversation with people face to face you don't get this sort of reaction. What gives?

I for one agree with you Rovernaut, was thinking exactly the same thing "General Chat Almost anything goes, have a look and drop in a few lines. Think of it as a campfire chat". If that's the case, it must be a bloody boring campfire chat & I sure as hell wouldn't want to be camping with people with such limited views. Once again, what the hell is wrong with everyone. Lighten up!
A bit of humour is good for the soul! If you don't like it, well I'm sorry, I don't necessary like the content of some posts, nor agree with them, but I sure don't get offended by other's views/opinions. I reiterate, do people behave this way when they meet face to face? I have been on some trips with people from the site, & found them all great. Or maybe I am thinking about another forum. :p

Its not funny or entertaining you may think that as far as what has happened or someone elses valued or justifiable opinion is entertainment then thats just plain ignorant
If you want to be entertained hire a dvd ,go to the football ,go four wheel driving (Do something constructive)
Dont just jump in where you have nothing constructive to say and post crap about nothing
Go take your whole Landrover to peices find out how it works put it back together and start a thread telling us something usefull like how to shim swivel housings
Or go on a trip and take some good photos post them up for all to see and share with us what a great adventure youve had

Or alternatively, why don't you only read posts that interest you & are relevant to your interest ...
Maybe you should only read the sections relevant to building, rebuilding, shimming swivel houses etc, as that appears to be the extent of your interest.
I don't find it plain ignorant, I think people should lighten up & enjoy life.
I entertain myself all the time, I read, do archery, geo-caching, work on my SIII, go to the cricket, watch movies, do four wheel driving, (& post pictures of the trips when we've got some), knit, sew, cook gourmet meals, go to the beach, do crosswords, gardening, entertain, have a laugh, share jokes with likeminded entertaining people, oh yes, this is on top of being up at 4:45 to go to work & getting home at 6:30 5 days a week & doing housework, washing, ironing, etc. So, yea, I actually have a life & enjoy it.
If that's your opinion, then maybe half the posts on this forum should be deleted.
What is funny & entertaining to some, may not be to others. Not everyone is the same, that's the beauty of life. So get over it & only look at posts you're interested in.
I personally think it's very sad that people get so upset because someone puts a post on, in good faith, which some people found amusing, only to be made to feel like an absolute prat.

Or alternatively, why don't you only read posts that interest you & are relevant to your interest ...
I don't find it plain ignorant, I think people should lighten up & enjoy life.
I think there's big differences between general chit chat and a page of Nigerian scam email that anyone who's been on the Internet for any period of time will have seen many times and already be so heartily sick of they won't even bother looking beyond the subject line as it gets filtered to the Junk Email folder. To then have the second post non-selectively quote the whole thing needlessly a second time doesn't help.
Now, was that just cause for the reaction of the person who has since left? No, in my opinion. Sounds to me like there was more to that, and this was just an over reaction caused by whatever else may be going on in his life...but that's his business. He's still a loss to the forum however.
What's annoying is this is the second person in a few months who has left over silliness on here, and whilst the previous member thankfully came back, it was still a loss to the forum while he was gone. If valued members continue to go, and all that is left is endless crap from people who don't also add value, then it doesn't take a genius to work out the eventual result.
Oh, and if anyone is genuinely interested in scam emails, please let me have an email address for you, and I'll set up an auto-forward rule, as I have thousands of them I'd be happy to share.

I get your point Jeff, maybe I found it so amusing because I never get scam emails.
I also think it's very sad that Tombraider has chosen to leave, he obviously gave a great deal to this forum.
However, I still think everyone seems too sensitive & overreacts to the most insignificant issues. I also get the impression some people relish it so they can start an argument. I personally don't see it as such a big deal. If people don't like the content, they shouldn't read it. That's the beauty of being able to put the cursor over the original post, so you get an idea of what it's about. And even if that fails, & you open it & don't like it, why on earth would you still read it?
I once again reiterate. If you were with a group of people sitting around the campfire & someone started talking about something that didn't interest you, would you immediately go off the deep end & start being nastly, or worse still, abusive? I would hope not. You would say that it didn't interest you, you disagreed with their opinion etc, then either change the subject or move to a group of people that you did enjoy talking too.

I agree - that's what I meant by silliness. Everything from posting utter garbage, to childish bickering even my 10 year old daughter is too mature for, through to downright nastiness and personal insults.
I wasn't having a dig at anyone in particular (Though some could do with learning how to quote selectively at times!) but merely expressing frustration at a few recent events on here. For the first time on this forum, my ignore list is going to see some additions, and that's sad. With all the forums I'm on, I've only got a couple of (genuinely immature and annoying) people from one shooting forum added to date! :(

Jeff,
Yea, I agree. Sad isn't it.

I don't think I could have written it any better than Panda, but on the same token I don't see it as sad either. In fact I see it as positive. Look at how many people on the forum, from all walks of life, 4000+ and only a few..lets face it minor issues at times. You can get more hassles in a get together of a family :). Like anything in life it is a choice, a choice to read a thread, a choice to post on a thread, a choice to leave yourself open to others thoughts and opinions....all choice. What you do not have choice about it what sort of response you may get. A response maybe determined on the persons frame of mind, how their day has been etc. Forum "writing" is more intellectual as half of what you say is coming straight from the brain to a computer screen. Face to face, your mouth tends to get in the way, hence why I find most peoples content interesting as it gives a small insight into how the person ticks.
Im sure some people have formed opinions on myself based on some of my responses, and like many may find the opinion they have would be different to meeting the person in real life. Why? Because, for me anyway on some of the more interesting subject content that arises on here, I will debate...discuss....give opinion on moreso than if I really was around a campfire. Around a campfire I'm more likely hunting down my next cold one and talking about the adventures of the day etc etc,
Regards

I think Tombraider is chucking out the baby with the bathwater here. We all have dummy spits. I had mine a few weeks ago over some thoughtless comments made about one of my replies to a post that I found offensive. I simply avoid general chat. I only looked at this one from the main page as I thought it a technical issue.
There is great value elsewhere in this site.

Stevo, your post was very enlighting. Interesting the difference between posting on a forum & chatting round a campfire.
My campfire chat has been similar, by the end of the day driving normally fairly challenging tracks, you tend to sit around, have a few drinks & talk about the day's event. But generally speaking, I've found towards the end of the evening, all sorts of topics get discussed, anything from politics, religion, sex, work, etc, including new topics such as aborigines, (e.g. the "sorry" campaign), immigration, & all the trials & tribulations that go the various topics discussed. Tops off a great day to broaden one's views.
I still think it's sad - sad in a broad sense that life in general has come to what it has - & it's only going to get worse. I'm a great believer in freedom of speech & people being able to voice their opinions, without the ridiculous repercussions of people being so self opinionated & seemingly unable to accept other people's views without getting in a tissy.
There is nothing wrong with a good debate, in fact it is very healthy, gets the brain cells working & gives people the opportunity to think & recognise other people's views & opinions. Also forms new friendships as it gives you an opportunity to suss out other people & what you may or may not have in common.

an Ignorant comment I chose to treat tempt it deserves
Maybe you should only read the sections relevant to building, rebuilding, shimming swivel houses etc, as that appears to be the extent of your interest.
You know nothing about me or what Im interested in so judge not unless ye be judged
I don't find it plain ignorant, I think people should lighten up & enjoy life.
Im as easy going as youll find but Ill say this my perspective is well thought and never malicious
So what your no different to anyone else my life doesnt revolve around a particular type of 4x4
If that's your opinion, then maybe half the posts on this forum should be deleted.
Everyone has a right to an opinion and thats mine
What is funny & entertaining to some, may not be to others. Not everyone is the same, that's the beauty of life. So get over it & only look at posts you're interested in.
Come now if I did that I would be deemed Ignorant and that would make me a hypocrit
I personally think it's very sad that people get so upset because someone puts a post on, in good faith, which some people found amusing, only to be made to feel like an absolute prat.
Good faith my ar5e Im not upset one iota and if you feel like a prat thats not my problem
Life is way too short.
Only if you sit idle and do nothing some live 5 lifetimes in 1

Jeepers, I watch page after page of this stuff. I think the forum is great, but no need for the all the angst.
Really simple
1) Respect each other.
2) Treat others as you would like to be treated.
3) If you are cranky, wait a couple of hours before hitting the reply/post button, and if in doubt, don't.
Whatever you are doing, where ever you are, leave it better than you found it.

I hate to get involved here, but some of us are being pretty accepting and compromising while some others are trying to start/continue trouble.
Anyones opinion can be serious or humourous to other people, they have the choice to decide to read it, and to decide how to feel about it. They also have the right to post how they feel about it. They dont have the right to attack others for similar responses born in others expressing their reactions.
The only thing im finding offensive is people starting ****. If someone wants to start a fight, do it where some bloke will punch you for being a douche.
Get off the back of those genuinely being considerate.
