Hi All,

has anyone bought a VC of similar sized part from Ashcrofts UK? I'm after a VC for my 93RR and was wondering how long it took to get the part once ordered.

I am being charged 85 quid for shipping. Seems a lot. Is it?

Despite that, it still saves around $500 when compared to independent businesses prices when I called them in Melbourne.

Any unpleasant stories? Appreciate your comments

Shipping out of the UK is horrendously exxy (especially compared to the USA) so the price is probably OK.

How much does it weigh? There is no surface mail to Aus any more (Unless it's a big enough item to warrant talking to a shipping company as opposed to Royal Mail or a courier), so if it weighs a bit and it's going airmail that's not unreasonable.

Never bought from them, but they have a very good reputation in the UK.

Dave Ashcroft is a really nice guy and very helpful. I have asked him loads of questions and he has always replied (even if I didn't buy anything off him). He is also helpful on LR4x4.COM and goes by the name of Ashtrans. Unfortunately shipping from the UK to Oz is expensive. When I shipped my Disco from Oz to the UK uit cost me about $1400AUD (£600) but it will cost me about £2500 ($6250 AUD) to ship my 2 90's over when I come later on this year. Must be all us pomms leaving England to come over there, otherwise the containers come back empty :p

In my experience, shipping from the UK is nowhere near as good as from the USA and sometimes it is downright terrible.

However the only time I bought parts from Ashcrofts (set of 4.11:1 ring and pinions for rover diff) I was very happy with the service and delivery (much better delivery than I had previously experienced from the UK).

I have had heaps shipped from the uk, 7/10 days is around the average but its easy for the odd item to get hung up for longer....
I'm post is awesome in uk compared to I'd
I have had things turn up quicker from the I'm than I have had from Melbourne, go figure!!

£85 sounds about right to me when I brought a snorkle from the I'm it cost the same to ship it as it did to buy it, that wasn't a heavy item.

Thanks Guys,

I have only bought in parts from the US and never from the UK. Just wanted to get a feel for the shipping. Its great to get positive feedback. I am going to place my order with Ashcrofts.

It is a pity you didn't ask earlier about Ashcrofts.

My 110 is going into a container on Monday and will next see the loght of day in Sydney. I am bring a few goodies over for people in Aus amongst my spares kit! :D

Would have save you a few bob in postage and I would have got the use of another washing machine. :p

Regards

Brendan

I'm just a two time loser!

Thanks for your very kind offer. I found out yesterday that my boss's brother is coming out to Melbourne on Sunday and could have done the same...groan...

Bugger! Bugger! Bugger!

I wanted a set of post-99 rear lights for a P38A. The only cost 120 quid but the postage is 45 quid!

Ron, there's a slim chance I'll be in the UK in a couple of weeks. Once I know for sure, I'll PM you - I'd be happy to put them in my suitcase for you, as they won't kill my weight allowance.
