I currently have the 3 amigos lit up on my dash but no other fault lights. The problem is I had the codes read by an OBD11 code reader bought from Ebay.

The code reader did not pick up the amigos (even though the advert said it would) but it did pick up 3 fault codes.

The codes are P0171 (system too lean bank 1)
P0174 (system too lean bank 2)
P1950 (rough road implausible)

My question is, if the engine check light (ECL)is not on, are these codes relevant? That is to say if they have not triggered the ECL, is there anything to worry about at this stage?

I have read previously that the two P017 codes indicate a possible MAF problem.

My second question is I have read several overseas forums about spark plugs leads. Disco Mike who seems to be an authority on several sites claims the only leads to use are Magnacor 8mm. He claims they resist the high under bonnet temperatures better than others. Would someone care to comment from an Australian point of view?

I reckon you should inspect your inlet hoses and vacuum hoses after the MAF.
This to me indicates an air leak.
I am only guessing , but I would think that the codes are thrown by a low voltage signal from the O2 sensors. Could be an exhaust leak before the sensors also.

Not sure what your reader from fleabay is saying but there are probably about 1000 posts about the 3 amigos if you do a search.
The most common cause is a faulty (or smetimes dirty) wheel sensor, it ws the cause of mine lighting up.

as for plug leads,, nothing wrong with magnacore,,

but why?

is it missing?
and if it EVER has "missed" the ecu will log the fault and report it next time Textbook is connected.

as wardy1 said, go to COMMON FAULTS and have a read,,:D

I appreciate the replys but my question/s were misundertstood. I don't require any information about the 3 Amigos, I'm pretty much up to speed. I mentiond them mainly to show the Ebay reader was questionable. My main concern was that the reader read the engine codes even though the Engine Check Light was not on. I was wondering if the codes were relevant, given the fact that the light was not on??

In relation to the leads, I asked the question because in the near future I will be doing the head gaskets as I have two water leaks. I thought it was an opportune time to change the leads, given it is a much easier job with the top half of the engine removed.
