Hi guys

I have had an oil leak which has been getting progressively worse over the last few months..

noticed a small puddle under the car yesterday so decided to take a quick look...

underside of the car was covered (dont know how it wasnt dripping more!) gearbox and sump were covered too.. black and crapped up to hell...

anyway had a quick look round to see if i could see where it was from.. and just caught a glance of the oil filter and it had a single drop of oil on the bottom but was otherwise clean... checked the oil filter and it had come loose! its been about 6000k's since it was changed, but the leak hasnt been evident in all of that time.. so im wondering if its a case of vibration and corrugated roads has shook it loose a bit... either was it could of been very nasty of it had of loosened some more!

for once i hope its an oil leak thats been easy to fix!

Thanks

Steve

Run your finger under the hose connections of the oil cooler lines above the filter, these leak and weep down onto the filter too.

(I was going to edit my reply but the Edit button has disappeared). I had assumed it was a 300Tdi, re. the oil cooler lines.

dunno what brand of filter... i'll have a look if i can see..

yeah i noticed the EDIT button has gone... just tried myself..!

the engine is a td5 not 300tdi... im pretty sure this was it as the filter span in my hand when i turned it with no effort.. so its now tight again and the underside is degreased, hosed and sparkling! so i can see if anything is going to come out now..

Thanks

Steve

The main spin on filter do have a habit of working loose, due to vibration. You have to make sure you fit them to the correctly and tight enough....even then they some times work themselves loose.
