View Full Version : Tinting Defender Roof Windows

Picked up my new Silver Defender last Thursday after the windows were tinted. Turns out the tinting company said they couldn't tint the roof windows because of the angles. Has anyone run into this problem? Do I need to try another company or come up with another solution?

By the way, the new air conditioning and window tinting really keeps the new Defender cool!

Thanks

I never had problems getting my Disco alpine windows tinted - and they look the same basic shape as a Defender.

rubbish they never tried.....

they always say dont know if i can, to cover there backs incase it looks crap

solar tint said it to me but still did it and did a very good job on both my discovery and my defender:)..........

i think the glass is only curved one way.....i think some glasses can be curved more than one way which makes tinting them hard as its like tinting a goldfish bowl

I actually asked for the extra dark/Black tint .. they said they did, but it looks the same to me.:(

Yeah, this is something that $hits me. Mine were done by L.R and I payed more just so it could be done for when I pick it up and first thing I noticed was the alpines not tinted. I've seen many with them tinted and not a bubble or anything wrong. They were just lazy.

Mate if that was my car I would of told them to take it back and tint them..
what sort of car company can't tint there own windows that everyone else can

We paid $380 I think it was and all windows except front windscreen were tinted, the very back including the alpines were done in the darkest legal. It was all done in about 4 1/2hrs and the tint is life time garenteed.

I'm jealous! I do think it makes a big difference if Alpines are done too now I've sat in a couple with them done and often notice that mine are not!

When you get the alpines done, ask for ambulance tint, which is the darkest possible, and normally illegal for side windows. I had no probs with mine.

Sounds like dodgy brothers window tint. We had ours done in the Defender and Disco no problems at all.
I would say the people you used are inept and would take it back and tell them to do it.
Better than that if they are part of a national chain ring their head office.

Thanks. I'm going back to the National chain and will ask that they finish the job! I will suggest that they pull up the ALRO web site.

Thanks

most will say they cannot do it, mine just said they would try - turned out spot on.

What prob happened is the dealer screws them down to about $200 per car and charges the buyer $500+ for the same fittment. An old trick but still works.

No problems back in '97 when I had mine done. I do remember it was a bit of a challenge at the time... was done by a woman fitter so how hard could it be

Thanks everyone for your support on my tinting question on the alpine windows. Originally the tinting company said they couldn't do the alpine windows. I called the tinting company last week and asked that they give it their best shot. They agreed and did a good job on the alpine windows today.
