I made the mistake of lending my Disco to the old man whilst I was away with work,
He was driving home and hazards were on (he can't say if they came on at startup or not)
But... the switch wasn't on.
He switched the car off, then it wouldn't turn back on again.
after getting out and locking/unlocking it a few times it came good.
Can anyone please point me where to start looking?
The indicators haven't flashed on lock/unlock with remote since I got it a few weeks ago, can't remember if they did on the test drive. Because of this I didn't think the alarm etc. was setting.
I'm wary to go bush this weekend in case I get stuck!!

You might want to list what sort of Disco it is - as there are a couple of different Landrover alarm systems - Lucas 17VT and 10AS. Or, it could be an aftermarket alarm as a lot of Disco's before 1996 came out without them.

I went out and realised I forgot to put the model...
its a '96 300Tdi
Got a red led under the tacho/speedo, and a motion sensor jobby above the mirror

Probably the 10AS - 315MHz.
Motion sensor above them mirror doesn't sound right though - should be an ultrasonic one above the B pillar on the passenger side.
If it is a Lucas 10AS, the alarm unit is up behind the kick panel in the passenger footwell - green box.
I'd suggest taking it in to someone that has a Testbook /Rovacom or whatever to read that alarm ECU. This ECU also controls the remote entry.
It might be something simple like getting the fobs resynchronised to the ECU.
Maybe first try putting a new battery in your remote.
The flashing Hazard lights are normally triggered by an inertia switch inside the Alarm ECU ( I'm pretty sure anyway). This is only supposed to happen after a fairly hefty jolt.
Whatever, all your problems seems to be pointing to the alarm ECU.

Cheers for that,
I'll try the battery and go from there,
Plan to run wiring behind dash this weekend for switches etc so if this infamous spider is there it's going whilst I'm at it!

Started playing with this again today,
The alarm is factory, but... there is an aftermarket central locking system.
This system is not connected into the alarm, all the factory central locking wires have been cut.
I have put in the plug to disable the spider which is a start although I would like to totally disable the alarm system.
Is there an 'easy' way to do this? possibly just jump pins on the plugs like for the spider?
The alarm module is so sensitive even touching it activates the hazards.
Am going through the wiring diagrams now, hoping to find a way!

I have heard of people removing the alarm unit. The only issue would be how to bypass the interlock for the starting circuit.
If you do a search on this site you might find the old thread about which pins you need to jumper.
When you work it out I'd like to know myself, so I can make up a bypass plug for the alarm unit in an emergency
The other option would be to remove the circuit board out of the alarm unit and try resoldering any dry joints. A bit risky however because you could end up stuffing it altogether.

Found itConnector C274, White plug - jumper pins 1 & 2.
Can you take some pics if it works and before you put it back together Tkx.
Oh an Thanks Langy for the orginal post. !
EDIT : However having a look through Rave, it appears that where a spider is fitted, the alarm ECU talks to the spider through a data signal, and controls the engine immobilisation via the spider. Theoretically therefore, if you have bypassed the spider you should be able to just totally remove the alarm unit and everything might still work. ( except the alarm of course ). Mabe try that first.

Tried that last night,
Unplugged, both, just the green, just the grey will not start under any of the conditions.
Will try the jumpers now

Just read the post again,
For connector C274 pin 1 goes to the indicators (one side didn't write down which), and pin 2 goes to the central locking??
Well... that's what I figured out last night, I could be wrong!

Hmmmm... that doesn't sound right. Hold fire !
As I said I'm only going off an old post of Langy's - he could be wrong of course. ;)
Let me see if I can work out the Rave wiring.

This may help. They show the pin outs for the 10AS module & Bosch EDC

Best I can work out from Rave ( and the pinouts from the post above verify it ) is that pin 10 on C274 ( which is the smaller 12 pin green socket ) - the ground for the starter solenoid appears to run through that. All I can suggest is you ( maybe ) try to ground the wire that goes to pin 10 ( should be Brown Orange wire ) and see if the car will start. No warranty expressed or implied however :D
Let us know how you get on !

I've figured it out, alarm gone and she runs.
Details are downstairs I will post them later, once finished tidying up the other wiring that's everywhere

Cool - let us know how you did it - I'm going to keep details in the car.

C274 Pin 10+11 Join
C225 Pin 14 to ground (I joined it to C274 Pin 10+11)
I don't know if it will work without the spider plug in.
Got aftermarket central locking so can't say how factory central locking is affected.

There is no spider unit in 97/98 D1's ,the immobiliser is integrated into the alarm module.

Hi all,
I have managed to immobilize my 97 manual 300tdi. No spider .
disconnected the 10AS during looking for intermittent no crank issue and mow have no activity on dash. will crank but wont start. can bypass by providing 12v to cut off solenoid on diesel pump but indicator etc don't work.
I want this !@#$!$%$%@$GREEN BOX Of DOOM gone.
anyone done this before?

anyone every bypassed the 10AS unit. I mean removed it from the vehicle entirely? I have a 97 manual 300tdi which currently cranks with no dash lights and will not fire after disconnectiong the 10AS looking for another issue/ I can get it to run by supplying 12v to the cut off solenoid but accessories/indicators etc wont work!

Have you checked the fuses? Especially the engine fuse under the bonnet - fuse box just behind battery. I might have a spare alarm unit here - I will check in the morning. I'm in Stuart Town.

I have a spare here if you want it. Free, would just need to drop it in to you or you could pick up. Let me know.
