I have plenty of dents and scratches, with the accompaning green plastic smudges from the car park trollies.
Sills still in one piece because I will not go near big rocks without protection. The front has some damage from big rocks though.

It wasn't so much going backwards that had me holding my breath, it was the going backwards at 45° to the slope that did it:eek::eek:.
Good photo though, sadly the steepness of the slope is lost in the photo as usual.

If you keep going on that track(that's what the S3 is for) it does technically go to swanbank, but the big fence about 2ks from that pic with White Rock Conservation estate, no vehicles allowed, or something to that effect kind of ruins the drive. pity, there used to be some good track in there(10 yrs+ago).

OK, even though I don't own a Freelander - my mum does - I do every now and then drive hers. Great car, wouldn't mind having one down the track to go with the Defender...with a bit of skill and good tyres it's amazing where you can take them - except when you run out of ground clearance (anyone say sand :p).

Tyres are Sumitomo 'Serengeti', LT235/75R15. They grip nicely and look wicked! Here's the kicker: I picked up all 5 for just $400.

Bridgestone D694. Only got them on Friday but had a good chance to test them in the rain, way ahead of the OEM Wranglers in breaking and all round confidence. Road noise is up but not too much. They bag out nicely when deflated to 18 PSI and performed really well today in the sand but the FL2 was good in the sand before. Light car + 400Nm of torque = great fun in the sand!
They are called Revo in the US you can read reviews here although apparently not that good on snow :p TireRack.com Tire Reviews (http://www.tirerack.com/survey/SurveyComments.jsp?additionalComments=y&tireMake=Bridgestone&tireModel=Dueler+A%2FT+Revo&tirePageLocQty=&commentStatus=P)

The freelander 1.8 beat bowlers , belive me i was driving it at the time. It can put the power down alot better than the Big V8's
Goes very very well and shocked alot of people when it first went out. But eneded up winning the british off road champsonships two years in a row, with my brother at the wheel

Any idea what they do to modify the K series to make it last for racing?
They are well know to being very sensitive to over heating with dropped
cylinder liners and blown head gaskets, I had heard they moved the thermostat to help fix the problem but due to the design they are prone to failure.
I would imagine since it was such a common engine (Rover, MG as well)
that someone would come up with a good fix.

Relocation of the thermostat and a good head gasket fixes almost all the issues. There is also a lubrication issue with poor oil pressure in the head, but apparently a few new parts in the pickup fixes that.
There is more, but those are the easiest to fix.

this what my brother had done to it . But the restriction are tight in the racing he was doing do you could not do alot . His was a pre production freelander he bought from Saftey Devices . It was there show truck to show what roll over kit they could do for the freelander and also the test bed for the camel freelander roll cages.
Engine
visit to the Autosport show in January 2004 introduced us to PTP (recommended by scrutineer Robbo). They are part of the Trinity group and were hugely helpful. We were very restricted to what we could reasonably do. The regs state that the valves must remain standard, as with pistons and porting of the head is not permitted. The throttle body must not be enlarged. After discussions with Robbo and PTP, we went for a 140 head kit – as this was all that we could do. An ITG air filter has also been fitted.

We had a mix of later model landies and the improvements in TC are very noticeable. Mine being the oldest, I had to use plenty of revs to make the loose wheel spin a fair bit before TC kicked in. The early D2s also had to really spin their wheels but the D3s had virtually no spin before the TC kicked in.
