The invasion plan of Australia has now been enacted. The 110 is aboard ship and has left for the port of Sydney.
I will storm the docks of Sydney on the 8th May and will capture NSW and Broken Hill during late May.
Reinforcements in the form of Barbare (aka Bittersweet) will arrive in July and in a 6 weeks blitz we will conquer the East Coast and Queensland.
In November, further reinforcements in the form of Jon (Venture Overland) will ensure the conquering of Darwin , Northern Terrorties and central Australia before Jon returns to the UK and I head back for the departure port of Sydney in mid December. :p :D

Wow.... BIG plans ... hope you get it all done - a lot of Aussies haven't done all that in a lifetime!
I assume you are aware just how big this place is...?
It looks like you plan to skirt around our region but if you come through the new england (inland NSW - 450-850km north of Sydney, 200+km from the coast - spectacular scenery) post info or pm me closer to the time.
regards - Laurie:)
ps... signage & local road maps are in kms (for some unfathomable reason) so you'll probably end up doing the mental arithmetic to convert to real distances all the time just like us aussies do.

Brendan, it's bad enough you're going to brave our specially trained outback backbacker serial killers:D, but as others have suggested you may want to consider changing your schedule to do the NT and central Oz first up while it's relatively cool, and do the east coast later.
Or is it a "mad dogs and Englishmen" kinda thing?
Cheers.

And they are missing out the OTHER best part:mad::mad:
Ditto about the north and centre. Do it first guys or you will find it VERY arduous. Unless of course you ENJOY 110% humidity and 30 to 40 deg celsius....and endless rain, mosquitos, crocs, impassable roads, bla bla bla bla.
I know, just come down to Tassie and spend the whole trip here:p!!:p

Nothing like the input of the local collaborators! :p
Have a couple of fixed points early on during the invasion plan. First is the storming of the docks at Sydney followed by overseeing the challenge in the outback at Broken Hill. This is followed by R, R & R in Singapore whilst the 110 has a well earned rest in Adelaide.
So from early June to mid December when the 110 embarks back to good old Blighty from Sydney, the invasion schedule is wide open.
So what invasion plan would the local collabrators suggest from early June to December starting in Adelaide and ending in Sydney?

Gee, 6 months-ish?
North through central Oz and NW to the Kimberley's, NE to Darwin by say Aug. SE to Cairns, the daintree and south as the temp goes up.

I read a few notes re air-con a bit earlier... Do you guys tend to use it or not?
When in Africa, we didnt have it - for the first few days it was hard getting used to the appressive heat, but then it became the norm and didnt cause us a problem - windows open time!! Those that did have it however, where constantly moaning (all the time) about the heat when they got out of there cool vehicles - they never seemed to aclimatise.
Makes me wonder whether its a good thing or not for use brits in hot climes??

OK I live in the far northern top-end. Climate control in the Disco can't be beaten, but I tend not to use the Air-con in my Defender. That said, there are times when it's so hot you just don't want the window down and the sun burning your arm on the window sill. There's also the issue of dust on outback tracks and that's another reason for having the window up and the Air-con on.

Hi Al/Reads 90
I leave UK on 1st May and arrive in Sydney on 7th May so I will not be at Gaydon. Am not sure what Jon (VentureOverland) has planned or not about Gaydon. Can say that Bittersweet will not be at Gaydon
Enjoy your visit back to UK and have fun at Gaydon

Hi Reads,
Like Brendan, I too will be absent from Gaydon, but for slightly different reasons - My flight doesnt leave until November!!
We will be too busy preparing from the LRO Land Rover show in Driffield the following weekend (10th + 11th May). If your still in the UK, its only a few hours up the road from Gaydon and Im sure we could find a spare beer glass for you!!

Hmmmm is that right? With a massive reduction in rainfall and 87% of your generation coming from Hydro Power stations, currently only 22% of your water storage capacity at your disposal n a nice shiny new pulp mill, Just what are you going to power your heatpump with when its 4 to -2 degrees outside?
Rolling brownouts are only 2 winters away.:wasntme:
