Air Compressor Mounting

I've just purchased the ARB High Flow Compressor to run the diff locks. I am looking at mounting it under the drivers seat in the little cubby hole there.

Couple of questions though?

1. How loud is it when mounted there?

2. Do I need to look at using an extension line for the air inlet - will it get enough clean air etc mounting it there?

3. How will it go heat wise running it in basically a confined space?

4. Can I plumb a fitting straight from the compressor into the seat base - so all I need to do is plug the air hose into the fitting instead of removing the seat itself?

I have a different compressor, but I have mounted my Bushranger Super max under my passenger seat, it fits in there well, just make sure you mount it on a piece of rubber, it cuts the noise down quite a bit, but it is still noisey, first off I mounted it directly onto the floor and it resonated quite loudly. I origionally mounted my Thomas Twin Tongue under the seat in the box, but after the seat box filled up with water during a water crossing I decided to move it out from there and up a bit higher, if you do a bit of wading I would mount as high as you can, for me living in the desert the height of the raised stepped section under the passenger seat is fine for the driving I do.

Did you have any heat issues, or problems with the compressor getting enought air flow when mounted under the seat?

I would agree - rubber bushes beneath the mounting is defo the way to go.

As for heat build up - I suspect the compressor will have a documented duty cycle - this is the key thing.

How long would you anticipate running the compressor for at a time? If needs must you could always remove the seatbox cover to allow natural convection - assuming you aint driving!!

ARB mounted mine on top of the driver side wheel arch, just behind the air vent. It worked well there and I could access the tyre inflating fitting too. Personally I would keep under the seat for handy items like torch, tools, shatch strap etc.

Not had any heat issues yet, these compressors all run very hot anyway, stick within the recommended duty cycle and you should never have a problem.

I have just mounted an ARB high flow under the drivers seat. It is to be used for a diff lock in future. But at present its only used for tyre inflation. The only problem with the mounting is the use of the supplied harness. The maxi fuse is located approx 2 meters from the battery. I was pleased at how well the harness fitted the Defender. If you use the supplied harness do yourself a favor and relocate the maxi fuse or fit a second 40 amp fuse at the battery end of the harness.

I have mine mounted under the rear passenger seat. Fits nicely just under the seat, and mounted to the rear wheel well. Just open the rear passenger door, plug in the hose, and off you go. I still have room for tent poles, jack (standard Defender one), and other equipment. Was a bit paranoid putting it in the engine bay due to heat, and dust.
It works well for me.;)

Mine's under rear seat driver's side.Just open the door plug in hose ,thinking of adding pressure tank and regulator as well
