Getting super close to getting a disco1 now and was thinking . How many Km's is to many when looking for a second hand disco . I'll be looking at disco's from 95 models to 97 models. I've got $7,500 so i can count out owning a Tdi so V8 it is .:)

My first V8 disco 93 started to fade at 280,000km but was still pulling strong and not burning any oil.
2nd one was a 98 only had 150,000 on it when sold (no probs)
3rd is a tdi 220,000 and going well
The thing with the V8 is, if you care for them well they last for ever (saw one with more than 500,000) BUT if you don't then execpt the worst

Any under 200,000 that have been looked after should be ok but the less the better

Diesels are out there.
I purchased my 1996 Tdi Manual for $7k, talked the owner down from $8500. Considering I had $12k to spend it has left me with plenty of $$$ for tricky bits.
It had 263,000 on the clock, which is kind of high, but runs beautifully. No Black smoke at all, even under heavy load (towing almost 2t of float and horses) and a little puff of grey on start-up. It's had the head gasket done and has been serviced by a landy place all it's life (I'm the 3rd owner). It was a little untidy when I got it but a good polish outside, a clean-up inside and a lot of fiddling under the bonnet has done wonders
I got 9L/100Km on the trip down and back from Cooma and other than a slight rattle in the steering I'm severely chuffed with it :D

You can tell how a car is looked after which matters more than the kms. The other day we bought a 99 series 1 with 220k on the clock, and you could almost eat your dinner off any part of the engine bay. You could tell it was always garaged (no cacks in the rear window rubbers) and paint finish was shiny from being waxxed so much. Always serviced on the dot as per the log book, etc this car was/is imaculate.
On the flip side a while ago we got in a 97 disco with 90K on the clock, and although it was in fairly good condition, there was alot more wrong than this 99 model.
Base it on presentation just as much as kms, as speedos are easy to swap.
