Have just got one of these phones.
Does anyone know how to make the sim card the default for looking up contacts. Current default is the phone memory.
Second one is I have set up the 60 sec and 90 sec time period for the screen to turn off - all OK - just touch a button and the screen comes back to life. However after about 2 hours, even though the phone is still on, the screen will not come back on even if the the buttons are pushed - the keyboard is not locked and the auto lock is set to none. It is as if the phone goes to sleep - like a computer going to into hybernation. The only fix I have found is too switch the phone off and then back on.
Any ideas on how to fix these - they do not seem to be covered by the manual.
Thanks
Garry

Hi Garry,
Have you checked out the whirlpool forums with this problem ?
Looks like a similar problem to yours is being discussed here

I have a 6120 as well and not had that problem ...as for the contacts default setting..don't know about that either :(...
Will have a look at my settings and see if anything can be set...I synchronize my contacts and calendar with Outlook on my work laptop and it all works..
cheers,
Richard

Thanks for that - looks like a major issue for the 6120 and Nokia is doing a Land Rover and ignoring the problem and customers concerns.
If I was aware of this I would not have bought the phone.

Good luck with that Garry..
Most of my colleagues in the office have these 6120 phones and not aware of this issue on any of them..
If I manage to work out the contacts default setting will let you know..
cheers,
Richard

Does it have a plug in memory card, e.g. SD card?
I was having problems with my XDA IIi locking up after a phone call - and I didn't notice. The effect was that no one could call me until I reset the phone. None of the buttons would respond - a reset was the only answer.
I found on the XDA Developer's site that the phone does a lot of post-processing after a call and one needs a very fast SD card otherwise it causes phone lockups. Since I removed the card, I no longer have the problem.

I also have one of these phones and have not had that problem. Perhaps try updating the software on the phone, very easy if you have installed Nokia PC suite. Also, do you really need to have your contacts on your sim? I use the phone memory and constantly sync with my outlook contacts on my lap top and do a phone backup every now and again. I use the phone memory so I can throw a UK sim in when I am overseas and still have al my contacts.
Only annoying thing I have noticed with this phone is it takes an enternity to connect to my car bluetooth and mutes the radio for around 10 seconds. I may have solved this by going deeper into the settings and asking it to connect without asking but I have yet to try on my car.
Funny how you get used to one maunfacturer though......I would only ever buy Nokia as I know them and how the menus work, made the mistake of buying a motorolla once and quickly went back to Nokia:D

I had a play with my 6120 and couldn't figure it out. I had a quick look online and it appears that caller ID will not work using SIM contacts either. So if that is the case I would imagine you wouldn't be able to use SIM contacts as the phonebook default.
I have always preferred Nokias (not always had them though) and I think this one is the most difficult to navigate. The manual doesn't help either. It seems to miss out things. Perhaps it is just because it is the first mini computer type phone that I've had.
I've never had the dark screen issue you are having.

Haven't had any of the problems you indicate, but have you updated the firmware ?
Noikia have released an upgrade for the 6120.

this is a simple matter of turning sleep off i have one of these phones lying around so ill do it on mine.ok go to the menu go tools then go settings then go phone setting then go display then in there it will have light time out which is what you were talking about and then it will have power saver time out and default it is about 30 mins i think and change that to off. your problem should be solved. oh and for the sim card, go into your contacts then go mark all then go copy then it will come up, from phone to sim or from sim to phone and press from sim to phone and your phone will automatically copy the contacts from your sim into your phone so when you view your contacts they will come up from your sim automatically. hope this info helps mate.
cheers.
James
