How to "surround around heater controls"

How do you remover the surround that is around heater controls/radio/ ashtray. Need to run some wiring in behind it so it needs to come off without brute strenth and preferable in one piece. I have seen it on the forums somewhere before but cannot find it. Disco1

Again, this is where RAVE comes in handy. The short answer (I presume you have a facelift D1) Is to remove ashtray, radio, coin tray, heater knobs and the heater facia- then you can get to the screws holding the main facia
