Hi guys
Thought I would post a video of a Kiwi friends recently roadworthy Series 2a Forward Control.
YouTube - FAB loves water (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6fvB72Jo8I)
Neil built the rear tray himself and yes it is a 3.5 Rover with LT95 on standard 4.7:1 ENV diffs.

You would have to admit that these series 2 FCs do not have the rugged beauty of the 101s :p- in fact you would have to agree they are butt ugly:o
But then I guess beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

At least the civvy F/Cs had a designer rather than just a draftsman! :D ;) :p

Way too many of them 'rugged' 101s on here...
LOL - My FC is bouncing around like a mad thing on the rocks. The D90 with the cam on hardly moves!
The 101 above needs to carry some load in the back - FAB does the same when empty - but all the same it does look like it has no suspension at all!

Great work Brookvale !
I dont have much footage of my 101 in action as I am always busy trying to steer the ship when the poo hits the fan.
I have to rely on friends to get the footage.
Alot of people have seen this before, but I though i would put it in the right spot.
I love the back fire going down the hill and the steam off the left side exhaust manifold and then the rover V8 burble going up the other side.
Naturally when I realised the camera was on me I had to get the water out of the air horn.

Last weekend a mate and my self were playing with the 101 at a motor X track.
As usual the camera doesnt show the steepness very much.
Check the winch just kissing the ground first time around and the fuel tank just missing second time around.
We were going to jump the old girl off the motor X jumps, it is just that the fridge full of coldies was in the back and we didnt want to break or lose any.
May be next time.

Yeah, I thought that too... When you hear the Radio body fire up early own in the video, the starter spins it over sooo fast! The Ambo sounds fairly normal though..... The weight of the roll frame on the Radio Body would change that vehicles characteristics a little bit tho!

That radio body sounds mint. The wheels on the ambo look too small though.
I still dont like how easily they lift the rear wheels going down a hill. Going to bee some stressful times ahead when I finally get to learn the 101's capabilities.

I like taking someone in the front of the 101 who has never been in one before and go down a very sleep hill.
Unless the passenger is use to forward control vehicles the look on their faces can be priceless....:D:D:D
The main thing is to take evey thing square on and not let one front wheel drop into a hole without the other.
Lifting the rear wheels due to lack of flex in the rear suspension is why a Detroit in the rear diff works so well.
The sideways roll over on a 101 GS is good........ambo body most likely poor .
Garrycol is the 101 down hill rear wheels lifting champion and lived to tell the tale.

Stuee, when those back wheels both lift, you have two options... Plant the go pedal to the floor, or plant the go pedal to the floor!!! (And pray that you remembered to engage the CDL!!! :p). I had one memorable moment at an AWDC trial in the UK where the rear of my old one decided to depart company with the ground on a long shale decent in a quarry.. From memory we exited the slope in excess of 80kph, looking like a couple of ghosts! :D

If going down hill and there are wombat holes go real slow - lower in the front into the hole on the brakes so you can fell the movement of the vehicle - it is momentum that will roll it. The rear wheel can get quite high but if you lower the the front wheel into the hole on the brakes you will generally be OK. If things start to go belly up I think turning toward the downside is your best hope. If you are going over the downside of the hole might get caught on the bumper and save your bacon.
Forward control vehicle do fall over (my Haffie also wants to fall over as well) but if you are aware of the issues and are careful it is not such an issue.

The 101 Club has the whole DVD of the journey (£10) where they tested 4 101's and a driven trailer to two (which I believe we're more trouble than they were worth). Having not seen 'Six Stud' before, I have to say it is a very well put together magazine for a small club. :)

Note the chains, the front/rear winch arrangement, the right way to snatch, 6x6s do get bogged, the mud and rain - the fun they seem to be having.
They do mention Landrovers but not understanding the lingo I assume they are bagging us - something like Landrovers can't do this :o

A fellow called Martin Vanman took most of the footage.
He got some good stuff of my 101 going up the loop track at Yalwal.
A Pinzguaer 6x6 went ahead of me and another behind.
The first Pinz had about the same amount of drama as I did and the one behind me just walked though it.
When I first seen the condition of the climb I was thinking no way the 101 was going to do it.(never looks as bad on the video).
I was very surprised that it got though without too much trouble and I though the 101 wasn't going to be anywhere near as good was the Pinz off road and hard going.
I need to raise the height of the bottom bar of the bull bar for the rock shelfs and more flex in the rear end and the 101 will be as good as it can be without turning it into a rock buggy.
Check Martin VanMan you tube of the 101 doing the climb

Good work Ron - the other thing that would help in those big rocks is power steering. I see you managed to not dent your wheel steps but came close.
I am sure the 6x6 Pinz went up there no issues (did they try the big steps?) but I think it would have been different with a 4x4 Pinz - it would have been harder going than the 101.
I think that my Haflinger would have got up following the line you took but only because it could fit between those big rocks more easily than the 101 but it would never have got up the steps without tipping over.
Great stuff - oh is that Ryan directing you - he is all grown up.

The L plates on the 101 on some of the footage of the day was so Ryan could drive it........gets Ps in a month or Two.
The Pinz didnt try the harder line, as it was alot worse in real life than in the video.
They did have a go in the rock garden near camp and were impressive.
I didnt try the rock garden as I dont risk damage to my vehicle just to show off and The Pinz were in a class of there own going down them due to the stability the extra wheel set gives.

Yes the 6x6 Pinz seems to perform a lot better in tight going than the 6x6 Perentie and is certainly very stable.
If I could get hold of a Brit made 6x6 Pinz Diesel I would be most interested.
