I just replaced the drivers side engine mont on a D2 that had dropped enough to cause a significant drone when accelerating in all gears(auto) and was quite harsh at idle. The trick with these mountings is to look up from underneath at the hole in the bottom of the mount . If you can see rubber pushed up hard against the hole, then the mount has collapsed. The new one I fitted is about 10 to 12 mm further up inside.
Now a smooth vehicle again!

I hope this helps somebody else out as well
My new TD5 engine mount arrived yesterday. Geez, looking at it compared to the RHS one in there, the RHS one is absolutely stuffed and the LHS one not far behind using JustinC's method of identifying a faulty one. (Thanks Justin)
Need to order a second one now for the LHS to swap out also. 89,000 klms and they are both stuffed. I guess it's a TD5 towing thing. (Probably with the extra grunt also from the mod's).
No wonder it sounds like I have a sports exhaust system under the Disco, a very harsh idle as well as the cat converter tapping on the chasis because of the slant on the motor to the RHS where it has dropped about 10 CM plus a strange noise from the Disco when turning right.
Now to swap out the RHS one this Sunday, fit recently bought Dobinson shocks all round and do a service.
There goes watching the footy match :( but hopefully the Disco will be all sweet again. :)

My replacement for the RHS arrived today. I'm keen to get it installed before a day's driving on the freeway on Thursday and hope it cures the drone. Mines' done 154K but its anyone's guess as to how long its needed replacing.

What about some photos of the trashed mounts. I believe my mounts are OK but have recently had to change a transfer case mount.
How hard was it to change the mounts?

I've never seen a Td5 mount but would this help? It says they are for a Disco2 but doesn't say which engine.

That doesn't look anything like the TD5 mount, which has a vertical top stud and 2 side brackets with holes.
The RH mount that I've just removed has been rubbing on the engine bracket which has quite a large shiny contact patch. There was a visible wear ring on the rubber at the top of the mount which was the evidence that confirmed the need to replace the mount.

Hi,
They are V8 Mounts. I'll take a few pics and post them up when I get them swapped over. Doing the job tomorrow.

JustinC, Thank You for your advice on the mount and you were right, I should have taken it to a workshop, put it on a hoist and used a transmission jack under the motor. It would have been much, much easier that way.
Thank you also Graeme for the tips. You deserve a medal, doing it with limited jacking equipment. It was a pig with 2 X 1650 Kg trolley jacks.
What a baxxxrd of a job doing it in the car port, with a couple of trolley jacks. Lucky for me the wife was an excellent TA.
Will get the pic's of the new mount and the one that came out off the camera tonight.
If you look at the mounts from under neath as JustinC said there are two holes in the bottom of the mount. You should see the rubber about 10 centimetres up inside the hole. If you do then they are OK. :)
My right hand side one was trying to push out the centre hole. It had collasped. The TD5 sits much higher up in the engine bay now. My LHS one is about 4 cm from the bottom and gets swapped out either next Sunday or Sunday after.

I guess that you jacked your vehicle too, whereas I just jacked the engine.

I have placed some pictures in my Tech Chatter post on RHS Mount.
I had a second jack under the motor just in case the engine came off the first one. Both were under the motor. Call me super cautious. ;)
