Had a great day at work today, been pretty busy at work all week, being self employed that is great. I've been struggling of late with the limited cargo space of my Disco as i work out of it, and recently have been noticing a few maintenance issues that need sorting out, culminating in my front Prop shaft being removed today as the DC joint has had it!
I need encorogement as i'm considering starting to look for a, dare i say it on here..............

Mate don't get it into your head that Toymotas don't have maintenance issues too!

I've just got through a pretty expensive run on my D2 but hey...its cost me bugger all for 200,000k's:)

Just work through the items one at a time.... use the forum to find info that'll save you heaps...and last but not least..do you have a good mechanic who really understands the vehicle? If not, PM me.

I can promise you that any of the Jap trucks will not do the good stuff anywhere near as comfortably as your Disco does... I've had a few of them.

Yeh you could go that way but wouldn't it be nice to have two Land Rover? What about buying a Defender

I have a set of drawers in mine, with a cargo barrier with a top shelf.
I also work out of mine, need to work and store things in a tidy manner with every thing having its place. I had a Mitsubishi l300 van (lots of room) as a work bus years ago, went from that to a rangie, at this point I started to work out what I really needed to have and from there to the disco. As the vehicle room has shrunk it has made me accutely aware of the excess I used to carry. My rules are plan ahead, be neat and tidy, be minimallistic.
cheers

Mate

Depending on what you do for a living a late 90,s early 2000 2.8 turbo diesel Rodeo would have to be one of the most reliable workhorses around.

We have a D2 as our family car and a modified RRC as the play car. I also work for myself and use a Ssangyong ute with an alloy tray. 5cyl Merc diesel is ultra reliable and cheap to run.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the replies fella's.
I'm a service tech maintaining commercial doors of all shapes, sizes and designs. I have a roof rack, cargo drawer, cargo barrier and top shelf.
At the moment i carry 3 ladders, 1x large extension, 1x 7 foot step ladder and 1 x 3 foot step ladder, welding machine, cordless drill, 240V drill, grinder, hand tools, socket set, hole saw set, 2 x extension leads, stack of 5 whiches hats, large partition tray with electrical fittings, similar tray with screws, rivets etc, 2 large plastic tubs with electrical cable in one and door/automation spares in the other. Also carry various parts for planned jobs as well as some stock to cover common break down situations.
I have to pack smarter i think!!

Am considering building myself an offroad capable work trailer to cater for work and camping trips.

Do you have any suppliers in mind?

Would love to, don't have the space though for too many vehicles.

I'm in a new job and working out of my D2 now as well - putting a lot of k's on it recently. Clutch all but died driving from Kal to Perth this week - have just had master and slave replaced and all is good.

Looking at upgrading in the near future and have just done a comparison between a D3 TDV6 and the new Toymota LC200. No comparison really - the D3 wins hands down in every respect. So thought I had just about made my mind up.

But then to throw a spanner in the works, a mate has recently bought a new Defender and I've been having a good look at this. Might be even better suited to what I want than a D3. Very impressed with what I've seen so far.

I really think that Toymota are now relying heavily on brand loyalty and fleet deals) for much of their sales because, if you do an honest and unbiased comparison between the Toymotas and the comparable LR product, the LR wins it in just about every respect.

I'm not biased either way - have had more Toymotas than LR's and have been very happy with some of them (especially 80 Series GXL). But with the new models, I think they've lost the plot.

I admit it, I Sin, I live in both worlds.

Just whatever you do - "Do Not" touch a 2001 to 2005 TD30 as the engine will blow up on you. It's just a matter of when. Fifth gear will go crunch in the manual.

Keep the disco as a play toy and buy a van, even a toyota or nissan will have issues (as mentioned above) and for what you do you wont gain much in terms of interior space. Failing all that buy a defender.
