View Full Version : Do you live in Cairns? Good / Not good suburbs?

We are "sort of" thinking about moving to carins to cash-in on the silly house prices in Perth after I looked on the internet and saw what looked like new 4x2's for around the 400k mark.
I would like to know if that is realistic and which suburbs, (not CBD) should be avoided and which are nice-ish.

They say the rule in Cairns is to avoid the suburbs starting with "M" - Manoora, Mooroobool and Manunda. Edge Hill and Whitfield are very nice, or for newer housing estate type houses Park Ridge seems to be a good place to live. Otherwise out on the beaches is great, places like Trinity Beach, if you can handle the commute through about 12 roundabouts to town.

I am no real estate expert, but IMHO the "new 4bed 2 bath houses" you see for 4s are not going to be good value in 6 months to a year. Sit and watch the CNS market for a little while yet, may save you some dollars.
Having said that it is a tops place to live, close to the cape, great fishing, lifestyle and weather... bit busy for us these days so time to move on but still a nice place.
