Hi all , does anyone know or have info on replaceing the belt driven fan with thermo fans on a RRC ? just woundering if it a common conversion or not and if it is what fan to use ? has any one done this and should it be considered or not .

I have successfully modified Nissan pintara fans. (Ford Corsair) They fit with a minimum of trimming and require 2 right angle brackets to bolt on to the Rangie shroud mounts.
The complete shroud with 2 fans can be picked up at a wreckers for less than $50.
I can post pics if needed

I doubt you'll see any gains in power or better fuel economy with electric fans. The advantage is you can switch them on or off when you choose too ie: when crossing a river.
Go for Ford EL-AU thermo fans. As HSVRangie said they work very well and fit easily to Rangie/Disco radiators. You wont have any issues keeping the motor cool with these fans.
Get a thermo switch from an auto elec, one 60amp relay or two 30 amp relay's and a switch and light for the dash + some high amperage wire and spade fittings etc etc.
There should be (usually is) a wiring diagram in the instructions with the thermo switch to help you wire it all up.
Hope this helps.

There hav'nt been any cooling issues, (never gets past 1/3 of the gauge) I run them from a Magna temp senser mounted inline on the top Radiator hose. For normal driving they only come on when stopped in traffic.
I chose the Pintara fans because they clear the water pump shaft by a country mile, the Au fans sit a bit closer, pump more air and cost more.
I will post a pic tomorrow

I did a conversion using 2 large Repco fans a couple of years ago after my 3.5 EFI mechanical fan threw a blade. I photographed each stage of the conversion and can e-mail them if you like. It was a relatively easy job and the fans cover almost the whole radiator. I've started to make a controller that has 3 set-points and will progressively bring in fans as the temperature rises. (1st the 2 aircon booster fans in front, then each of the new fans in turn).

I was at a Ford wreckers today in Melbourne, they wanted $80 for second hand which we bought, or 180 for new. Make sure you get the fans with dual wiring so you can trigger fans seprately. I've had EL fans in my LSE for a couple of years now and they work great, and makes working on raditor hoses etc a lot easier.
