hey guys a mate of mine owns a steel fabrication buisness basically making anything in steel ppl order and he said if i show him a few pics of a winch bar and rock sliders i want he will make them and since once the jig is made up its easy to run off how ever many more we want, and the more we order the cheaper it gets so for the rock sliders i will prob get something similer to the all range ones and as for the winch bar well it depends on what we all agree on as there will only be 1 choice so once i have pics of what we want he will draw it up on auto cad and give me a price, but remember the more orders the cheaper it will be!!!!!! (he will be charging for the price of steel and what ever it takes in labour so it will be a lot cheaper than anywhere else)

Can you show my any pics of the rock sliders? ....I'm new to the world of LR. Are they similar to the side steps only stronger?
Would they fit a 2000 D2?
Thanks.

Go and have a look at Jammies D1 at All Ranges as he has a custom tube style winch bar and sliders on his with 35" rubber.

Im pretty sure if you asked him very nicely and bought a heap off him he would do a good deal as well.

He's fitted the bars to 2 D1's and a P38 that I have seen.

I'd be keen on a set of sliders if the price is right :D

What would the market be like for a rear bar to suit d 2'' body lifted D1?

I imagine there would be a few takers.

If you need any help with design I have a few ideas and CAD to draw it all.

Cheers
Dave.

just seeing how many of you guys will want stuff atm so i can get an idea on numbers i would imagine the sliders wouldnt matter as they bolt to the body anyway (i think?) any the prices prob wont compare to all range (more cheaper) and the will be 1 sort of winch bar and 1 sort of slider so post some pics of what you guys like and we can see what sort of interest we get, i will be getting these for myself regardless just trying to offer you guys some good gear at a cheaper price

i'll see how it goes with the front bar and sliders then i might look into getting a rear bar, also the sliders and front bar will be coming in raw steel so you can paint it yourself or get it powdercoated, i'm just goin to do mine in black hammer tone so i can easily re paint if i want when it gets stcratched, imo powdercoat is not needed

It may be that as people already have a selection of winch bars and sliders that there could be more interest for a rear bar.
I would certainly be interested in a real D1 rear bar to suit 2 inch lift. I think brooksy in QLD may make one but apart from that the only other option is rovertym in the states. I like that bar!

I would be interested in sliders for D1, depending on price.
I too have CAD if you require drawings.

Who makes the rear bar pictured - i haven't seen that one before? The welds on the side looked a bit messy although it is hard to tell from the shot. But I do like the idea of the rear quarter being cut away and being replaced with something solid. Hmmm I wonder how that would go with the 40 ltr tank that fits up there on gas cars.

Dawg

If your mate could produce a tube bar like the FAT version or even the Scorpion like one I would be very interested . The sliders are also on my to do list, so any cost info on those would be well received.

As for the rear bar??? My plastic end caps on both front and rear bars are rooted :eek:, so I'd be interested in the rear bar as well I suppose.

mmm ,I 'm not sure how you'ver come to that conclusion ,but I was just merely suggesting that the Rear bar shown in the pic was a Good looking Rear bar if you were to Fabricate a Rear Bar.;)

I think that if your seriously considering doing this and offering these products (either yourself or through the steel fab business) you want to get the designs right.

There are so many designs around, and only a few good ones.

I think you can also do better than the scorpian bar too (but thats my personal opinion)

I will do a few designs a send them over too you within the next week.

Cheers.

Other considerations to think about at least :

If you install a non ADR approoved bar then not only may your vehical unroadworthy also may not be insurable.

If you have SRS airbags then fitting any of those bars make for an illegal mod which then means your vehical is unroadworthy.

Rear bars which incorporate a tow hitch have to be ADR approoved or the same will apply.

I dont think you will be able to build them for 1/2 price if you include steel and labour, maybe if you were to make them for the price of the steel then it's a possability but the labour will kill you.

By the way, Jamies Disco is Buy it now for $10k and is pretty well worth it IMHO.If anyone is interested in details PM me as Ive been out with hin in it a few times and Driven it once (even run into the back of it once lol).

Other considerations to think about at least :

If you install a non ADR approoved bar then not only may your vehical unroadworthy also may not be insurable.

Bull bars only have to be ADR approved if the car has airbags. Otherwise as long as it meets relevant traffic authority standards of design it is fine.

If you have SRS airbags then fitting any of those bars make for an illegal mod which then means your vehical is unroadworthy.

Depends on which year your car is. Airbags can be removed legally if Pre ADR 69 or as a factory option

Rear bars which incorporate a tow hitch have to be ADR approoved or the same will apply.

As long as it meets standards no approval is required. The issue is not necessarily the hitch, it is the mounting of the bar to the chassis.

I dont think you will be able to build them for 1/2 price if you include steel and labour, maybe if you were to make them for the price of the steel then it's a possability but the labour will kill you.

i would be interested in some sliders if the design and price were right, if he decides to make a bash plate i would be interested in that too.
as for the rear bumpers the first one pictured didn't have a tow hitch or room for it so thats NBG, how ever the second one looked like it could work with an existing tow hitch. If it can't tow its a no go:D.

Yeah I'm keen on some sliders if the price is right, but just a thought, if they are going to be a set length then they may not fit everyones cars, especially people who have the guards cut and LRA flares.

If they were LRA style sliders, then they can be shortened to suit easily enough, but the rovertym style doesnt look like the length can be changed easily.

Just a thought.:)

I agree. I was looking at trying to get some done that look the same as the D1 plastic trims below the doors. I'd say these could be cut down for different vehicles.

Ok here is the link to the LRA sliders

Les Richmond Automotive P/L (http://www.lrautomotive.com.au/238.html)

A few other places also sell this style, like rangie automotive in Lilydale.

Relatively easy to make, and shorten to whatever length, and they are not just a straight bit of tube, they actually have the slight bend to suit the disco sills, thats probably the hardest bit when making these.
