Well after being home today I realized that I still haven't properly checked out what the area around me has to offer. Does anyone have suggestions on what a new guy in his 20s living in Wheelers Hill should check out?
Still working on the whole making new friends bit too!! :D

Wheelers Hill was almost certainly named after the Wheeler brothers, John and Bartholomew, who were early settlers in the area. The Wheelers Hill Hotel was a post office and stopping point for farmers before a 6 to 8 hour drive to the city by horse to sell their goods. Sadly the Wheelers Mansion can not be seen today. It was destoyed by a fire in the late 1920's. The house was located somewhere the south of the Wheelers Hill Library.
Wheelers Hill was the last suburb of the now Monash City Council to be linked up to the electricity grid. This is because, at the time, there was a dispute between the Shire of Mulgrave and the Council of Waverley on whose suburb it was. The main roads in Wheelers Hill were named after land owners. The roads run on the boundraries of old orchards and farms.
In Columbia Park on Jells Road, there are steps, and a brick outline of where a homestead once stood (it was either the Jells or Wheelers homestead)
Wheelers Hill is home to Jells Park, a major recreational facility of over 127 hectares. It contains 9 kilometers of cycle paths and walking tracks which surround a large lake. Wheelers Hill is known for its trees. Parklands make up 31% of the total area of Wheelers Hill.
The Wheelers Hill campus of Caulfield Grammar School is the suburb's largest school.
Chris Cheney, guitarist and lead vocalist from The Living End went to school in Wheelers Hill, attending the Wheelers Hill Secondary College. He also spent his time before his rise to fame working in the After School Care program at Jells Park Primary School.

There was a court case a few years ago, where the publican wanted to extend the hotel and the neighbours wouldn't sell.
Mysteriously the house burnt down and a man went to jail...:nazilock:
Anyone else remember that ??

Notting Hill pub on a Thursday night is usually full of really cute uni girls.
Mind you, after 8 pints of Guinness, anything in a dress tends to look pretty cute. :D

Yup,
The bar manager owned up & took the fall for the owner -Loui Dowd who got off scott free - except for what he paid off the manager. I hope it was big $$$.
The lady who's house it was, was our kids teacher at the time. She has never been the same since. Its all carpark now and every plan to redevelop that site has failed to get thru council- there is a god after all.

The Notts OK, I remember when Sunday trading started, Cath the publican never opened as she said "Sundays are days to spend with family". I think to this day the Pub is still closed on Sundays (maybe the drive thru bottlo is open)

Haha, well... Just what there is around here. For the night, good clubs and pubs. Long way to go into the city. For the day... err, places to check out, beaches, sights. Like the knox, I actually saw that on friday night very cool looking place will be back there.
When you want to burn up your Sunday how would you go about it when you don't want to stay home for example.
I'm also using this to figure out if I'm one of the youngest active members on AULRO!

There is a good pub just out of Belgrave which is great on a sunday arvo. They normaly have some form of live music there too. It was all updated around a year ago, they do pretty decent pub food too.
Knox is not to bad on the weekends, but can be a bit rough sometimes.
The middle hotel in Ferntree Gully is quite good and has some decent live music too. Food is okay there. There is all so a pool joint just up the road which is quite busy on the weekends.

Unfortunately mate, you're in solid family with 2 kids, or middle age corporates territory there. They're all in bed by 10 pm.
Most social activity in the outer burbs for younger persons seems to centre around sports clubs or churches !

That's the place, I couldn't think of the name of it last night.
Also Ruby's in Belgrave is good on a sunday arvo, good live music, nice atmosphere and plenty of drinks.

Knox is bad - to many people snorting
Stanford on Sat is usually a blinder
Not on Thursday during uni
If you go closer to the city - ie kew there are some cool joints.
Warragul on a Saturday gets wild :D
As said Mcauwber Tavern is a nice joint to drink on a warm night
Pool Room :D
Check out the Burvale or the Manhattan :) I hear they are super classy
There are heaps more but its easier to go to the city.

Do they still swipe you with the Metal detector at the Manhatten?
If they do that at any pub, then you know she will be a Perla of a night
If there is Knifes, guns and a barney over Dart. Then she's a great night out.

Have you Tried AMM???? Sure place to find some fun....

When did they have the metal detectors at the Manhatten? I used to live a 5 min walk away and always went there, never saw any trouble.
There are also a few clubs/bars in Ringwood which are good for a laugh and guaranteed action (of the lady kind)if you are a new face

It is the expected norm in kew, to use the old Scandinavian, "fjørnicäte" on premises.
