Just rang a well known Landy dealer in western Sydney after a Defender part.
First question - What make of car is a defender :(
Explain land rover and get put through to the land rover specialist
Ask for the part (with #)
No don't have one - never sold one -"I suggest you try XYZ as they are a defender specialist":twisted:
No wonder land rover don't sell too many vehicle in Aus - even their dealers aren't interested.

Correct - they need to start getting of there behinds.
When did you last see a land rover dealership locally - our closest one is 300km.....
When did you last see land rovers being advertised on TV?
When you last rang a dealer did they return you call as they stated.......
My opinions only.....................
PS I was impressed with the display Land Rover had at Cooma - but I think this was due to some peer group pressure......

Have dealt with some dealers in country Victoria recently, they ordered me the wrong part. I had driven about 300 kays to pick it up as I was in the bush and when I got there and pointed out that it was the wriong bit, they simply said 'oh well, not much we can do now until Monday'. Not even an apology really, then just went on and served someone else.
Anyway, i know deal only with Britcar in West Melbourne. The bloke there is bloody fantastic, very helpful, will match any price most of the time (reasonably priced anyway) and is happy to give advice and so forth.
Sometimes Landrover are there own worst enemy (still love my Disco though)

They dont all seem bad.. I just spoke to the parts department at Bruce Lynton on the Gold Coast re an innjector harness for a TD5, and the guy there knew the part number off the top of his head (what does that say!) and the vin change for the gasket after about 2 seconds....
Must admit I cant really fault them from my experiences.
Sure some of them must have staff that are interested!

Maybe there's a difference in what you are ordering.
I ordered the D3 brochure & DVD last Monday and it arrived on Tuesday. Just waiting for the phone call now ;)
It might be quicker and easier for you to trade the car in  :D:D:D:D

Well, something's improved anyway, when I was buying mine last OCT/NOV I could not get a brochure for love nor money, tried Canberra dealer, tried the web, tried at the Sydney motor show and eventually got one at Trivett Mascot.

if you really want to have some fun with dealers ask them for a part for a series 2 landy and 9/10 times they get you the part for a disco 2, when you point out the window and show them the shed on wheels they get you a deefer part then when you try to explain that its a 66 model you will usually get
"they made landrovers back then?"

our local steeler sells jeep as well. now unless you knew this was the dealer you would think it was just a chrysler dealer no signs no landys to be seen jeeps all over the joint walk in to spares and you see jeep hats shirts coffe mugs stubbie holder all that ****. and dont dare go in there with out your vin number. i have got them out of asking for the vin now they just look up defender year and engine type and there in to the parts system i tell them what i want from a part number or from the pics on there spares program. easy as that but make it out to be a big deal.

Been there done all that - but aren't the actual cars at the old yard up on Melrose Drive?
No VIN does cause them a problem at the Jeep spare parts counter (they must not pay much because the guy at the service desk also stacks shelves at my local Woolies).
When I tried to order a radiator hose for my Freelander recently I learnt why they needed the VIN - now there has only ever been one L series Diesel Freelander and as such only one hose - so in theory just look up the book and find the hose. He kept on telling me that he had 6 listings for L series diesel top radiator hoses and couldn't help - I insisted there were not 6 versions. Any way I gave in and gave him the VIN and ordered the bit.
When I picked it up I took the guy to task again - then all became clear. The parts listing is not just on vehicles sold in Aust - it is an international listing and even though there is only one configuration for the part I was after for Aust vehicles, around the world there are 6 different versions of the top radiator hose - even though Landrover Australia only stocks one sort - obviously the one to fit the Australia version.
And yes this stealer would try to convince you that a Diesel Jeep Cherokee is a more capable vehicle than a D3 and would prefer to sell you the Jeep - commissions must be better.

i saw a brand new jeep patriot drive out of there yesty i recon the sills had less ground clearance than my diffs lol but yes the parts does list o.s stuff as well like the diff gasket i orderd it had two types one for australia the other for u.k europe. aussie one no longer available. same part but two listings seems stupid.

Sorry to bring this thread up again, but I have just been on the phone to Bruce Lynton dealership on the Gold Coast again and their parts department really is good.
Gavin I think his name was... on the phone for about 15 minues investigating part numbers and differences between Oz and Uk car specs...
really very good. Impressed to be honest. Polite, knowledgable and willing to do a bit of searching :) 10/10

Well in Darwin I had to go to the friggin' Bitsa-sh*tty dealer to get land rover parts - not a single land rover in stock and the parts always had to be ordered in from SA or QLD. No wonder the L'cruiser rules in the top end, there's no other option.
That Bruce Lytton parts counter is good - pitty about their shonky white-shoe, slicked back hair, gold chain wearing car salesmen though!
