Hello everyone - first post from a potential owner.

I'm looking for a D2 at the moment, and some of the ones I have seen advertised are good value, but they are only 5 seaters, and I really do need the 3rd row.

So it would be great if one of you gurus on here could please let me know roughly how much it would cost to get one professionally converted to 7 seats? preferably with (secondhand) OEM parts. Just want to see if it would be a worthwhile thing to do and not be a nasty bodge. I'm also new to Oz (VIC) so I have no idea about any rules and regulations involved in doing this.

I want to spend no more than 15k all up for a nice 7 seater D2. I have seen good 5 seater V8's sell for as low as 9k, and high k's TD5s for not much more, whereas the cheapest 7 seaters are only just below my budget. So a viable conversion could open up more options for me.

I reckon you should just wait for a 7-seater. My 99 D2 V8 was $12,500, so - assuming you're looking for a V8, not Td5 - I reckon you'll get one under your budget.

Hi,

Welcome to Australia. I too am a new resident.

It's too hard from an Australian road registration and insurance point of view to get a 5 seater modded into a 7 seater. Much less complicated just to buy a 7 seater to begin with.

As 4X4V8 said, wait for a 7 seater, there very common here and you'd certainly get a good D2 7 seater in your budget.

There's too many complicated extras to try and mod a std 5 seater. ie Self Levelling Suspension (SLS) for starters, seat belts built into the rear pillars, rear headrests oh and a rear step ;)

Keep trying Carsales, eBay, Drive, AutoTrader, Discount Autos, the list is endless.

I looked into the same thing before i bought my D2 and i found out that the cost of a NEW set of rear seats would cost $5500.00 plus installation so when i found that out i waited for a 7 seater to pop it's head up.

You can get 2nd hand seats for $695 a pair from Rover something or other in Lonsdale Adelaide. They should bolt straight in with belts. I don't know what the legality of it is.

Hi Stumo,

My 01 TD5 5 seater came with aftermarket rear seats fitted. The car was delivered new with the xtra seats in SA. The seats have the belts built into them. I removed them as I wanted the space in the back. They are for sale if you are interested with all fixings. You just need to remove the bin fronts and lids as the seat folds into this space similar to the 7 seater setup. :)

Cheers
