I really can't see Tata moving the current model Land Rover manufacturing lines to India.

When BMW bought Land Rover, was there even a chance that they would move manufacturing to Germany? Or when Ford bought over Land Rover - I'm sure no one would even suggest that Land Rovers would be built in the USA.

Hope I'm not wrong.... :angel:

//digressive story

A while back I was researching compact tractors for my old man on a set budget, I went to a few field days and found that the Chinese made tractors were clearly crap - poor quality ugly castings (ie. a complete inability to make decent steel and work with it), cruddy finish, didn't have a confidence inspiring feel and essentially very old technology. The Indian Mahindra tractors were flawless - new technology, well built, comfortable... everything about them was impressive. I think that the Indians really know what they are doing when it comes to manufacturing, and the terms 'quality control' seem to mean something to them.

I think that there isn't anything to worry about, and we could see some very good things emerge. Remember, a lot of Mercs and BMWs are made in China by Chinese people, and judging some of the crap that comes from China (no offence to any people of Chinese origin, but it the truth), Mercs and BMWs are still highly regarded vehicles.

moving the Defender "offshore" is the only way to save it in its current form.
It looks like Tata build it in India,,, will rip out all the electronics stick one of their tractor engines in it and sell it through their dealership without having to meet any modern pollution or safety standards.
and it will sell millions.

just not here---
