Ok all those with 2007 Defenders, has anybody installed cruise control yet?
if so what make and cost, i'm sick of the pain in my foot:wheelchair: after a 4 to 5 hour drive, its just in the wrong position.

I see there was a simple system listed some time ago for the TD5 has some one done this to the Puma ECU?

Thanks

I have a TD5 Defender, and have an Autron brand cruise control installed. I believe that they work with the newer engine. Was about $730 installed, but has paid for itself many times over, as I drive a road with 9 fixed speed cameras on it in 70 km. (Geelong Freeway). I got the dash mounted version, as the stalk one looked a bit weak.

Good luck,

Ken

Hi,

Cruise is by Autron - fully electronic and $750 fitted. It is a different unit to the Td5 system.

I'm told that there is a Land Rover Tech at Melbourne Land Rover that knows about installing cruise control in the new Defender. This source said that he is a guy in his mid twenty's that loves Defenders. He told my contact that the Ford transport engine has a port for the cruise control. Maybe a Ford transport cruise control after market solutions is another option. After a 6 hour drive to the Flinders Ranges, I certainly want to get cruise control for my new Defender.

Posted this in another Cruise Control Thread:

Hi Guys,

I've been hunting High and Low to work out what Cruise Systems are available for TDCi Defenders.

I've come across this Waeco MagicSpeed 800 (http://www.waeco.com/en/4374_1340.php) which is compatible with Freelander2 and the Ford Transit with the MS-FO2 (http://www.waeco.com/en/4374_1340.php?artOrigID=35503&sprID=2) wiring kit.

They have keypads, IR and Stalk mounted operation available.

I have asked if it is compatible with the Defender, and am just awaiting a response.

I'll let you know when/if I hear anything back.

Dave.

Dave, did you ever confirm whether this kit is compatible with the Puma? thanks!

Guys, Alto quoted me $950 for the 'locally fitted' dealer accessory. Not sure of brand and details - will advise once I know.

Hi guys. I have an Autron cruise control fitted to 2009 Def. Works very well and cost around $750 installed from memory. Only suggestion is they like to recommend stalk-mounted, but this looked a bit too clutterd to me. I got a dash mounted version, with 3 buttons (on/off; set/acc; decel). So far so good.

Last contact I had about Autron in 2009 was they would only do the stalk fitting and they couldn't work out if the CC would work on the Puma. Different offices seemed to have differing opinions. There is at least one other forum person with an Autron.

I take it you have the flat pad on the dash somewhere. That makes sense to me.

My biggest problem is I need one that doesn't require I drive 4000km to get it fitted.

I have the Autron, stalk fitment. I was told with the Puma the stalk was the only option. Very happy with it. It is mounted right had side of the steering box.:)

SVX37, did the installer mount the stalk upside down?

Press up arrow for decelerate, and down arrow for accelerate?

Mine (autron) has been fault free and I have covered 20,000km with it on long journeys like SYD-MEL almost the entire way. I find it to be at least as good as the factory cruise control I had on my old Disco 2.

See this thread for a picture of my 'stalk' / mounting position: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130-defender-county/106445-finally-arrived-new-puma-110-zermatt-silver.html

Actually, here's a link direct to the relevant post: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130-defender-county/106445-finally-arrived-new-puma-110-zermatt-silver.html#post1277640

I know BAS in the UK is working on an ECU remap-based CC, but no ETA so far.

I too went for the Autron, but rather then getting the stalk I went for the dash mounted model, which I can reach quite comfortably with my fingertips.
