I fitted one of Jases intercoolers and tweaked the pump on one, quite happy at 18Psi at the moment.

The return for tightening the waste gate on the stock turbo, with stock intercooler diminishes much over 17 to 18 psi.

At those pressures the compressor is inefficient generating increased heat without improving the flow enough to make up for the heat.

A better compressor section, or a compressor housing with higher A/R will help if you want to benefit from higher boost pressure.

hi justinc

did you adjust the wastegate to get 18psi after the Mod or simply bigger core intercooler and pump tweek increased boost up to 18psi max ?

P.S I'm serioulsy thinking about a purchasing one of Jase's higher capacity intercoolers...

P.S

Need 35" Flare kits, also what Diffs are you running 3.54's or 4.11's the bigger tyres do make a difference in your drivability...or do you have a defender TC?

Send a PM to GGhaggis(Gordon). He had is D1 wound up pretty hard.He also ran water injection and had his own in cab boost controler so he screw the boost up when needed, and back it off when things got a bit hot in the kitchen.
Im sure he would be more than happy to help out.

Sorry for my rudeness and the Hijack earlier with regards to your Rig , on my disco1 I've got a boost Gauge set up and Turbo boosts right up 15psi and even wants to boost up further but limted to 15psi , IMO there is plenty of boost but i needed more fueling , I installed a pyrometre and tweeked the cr...p out of the VE Bosch Fuel pump, Star Wheel , Stop Screw Eccentric cone adjustment etc etc, but on a test run with ambient temp about 33 deg or so the Pyrometer went pretty quickly up to app 700 deg or , so I've wound it back down to factory specs and vehicle was smoking a fair bit too with this Tweek, I also put in a straight thru muffler since and Turbo spools up very quick and Prior to this MOD Turbo didn't spool up as quick.

all the best cooter and let us know how you go..

I did the pump tweaking aswell as a wastegate adjustment. I agree with Johns (Bush65) comments too, the stock I/C offers a restiction above 16 to 17 psi, and efficiency drops off pretty quickly.

The D1 in question regularly returns 10.5 to 11.5 Litres / 100km when highway driven. It has a 50mm lift , 32" tyres and a roofrack.

If you could get more air into the cylinders (turbo and intercooler influence this), the EGT would be lower with the same amount of fuel.

cheers for the advise i will still be upping my boost to 17psi but will not be upgrading the ic to another air to air would not be beneficially instead i would prefer water to air running a seperate cooling system for the aftercooler
first have to replace my broken rocker shaft
