Well a Game anyway!!!

Haven't picked it up yet, but it looks to be in v.good nick.
Ran pretty well (apparently) 2 years ago. :D
Has a Holden Motor :( but comes with a complete LR spare :D
Needs a new clutch, but has lots of extras. Good rubber, looks v straight and reasonably rust free. Perfect seats, good interior.
Dirt cheap too :clap2:
Pictures to come......

In Canberra speak, this will mean a "liquidation of current Series 3 assets", and "consolidation/reduction of current projects" so watch this space........

Congrats FenianEel. Sounds like you've scored a good'n:BigThumb:. I always like the GAME...Land Rovers first attempt a SUV?? Weird name though...GAME..:woot: what's with that?.......but lovely vehicle I'm sure.

What's your plan?
Are you going to revert to LR motor?
Is it still yellow? (Only ever seen yellow. Were all GAMES yellow?)
Look forward to seeing it.:D

OK, I haven't got a game.
Was led up the proverbial...but I've still bought it.
What I have got is a yellow 1975 SWB with a Red Holden (prob 202?) motor, swing away rear wheel carrier, mil brush bar, safari roof, roof rack, s/steel long range fuel tank, blah blah blah....
Still good a good get..pictures to come.

The Range Rover was the first SUV and therefore Land Rover's first success at an SUV - in fact it created the class and the Game came about 6 years later as a JRA attempt at the popular market.

I believe the name is a marketing execs idea of developing an aura of the 'big game hunter" off in the bush in his 4 wheel drive. After all the only thing that was special about the Game was it's paint scheme and 15" rims. In every other respect it is a Series 3 88" station wagon, which were not usually sold in Australia.

The Game was however quite a nice presentation.

Well actually - in someways you were correct about the Game being Land Rover's first ??? SUV - the original development of the Range Rover was by the Rover Co Limited and Land Rover was only a product name, that became British Leyland Motor Corporation and only after BLMC did "Land Rover" eventuate as a serarate entity with ownership of the brands Land Rover and Range Rover.

Does that help??? :) :)

hey, I got one of them too

G'day FenianEel :)

"Killer" will be able to help you turn it into a "Game" as he has one, there were a lot of "Game Clones" built and painted, most have a yellow body and a black firewall and headlight surrounds, with 15 inch white"Sunraisier" wheels it would get a few extra hundred $$ in the used car yards :) the Holden should go and the 4 back in ;)

Sorry to have to coorect you Ho but the firewall should be silver, it matches the unpainted vents. I do agree about the 4 cyl going back in though.

G'day Killer :)

The real "Game" has a silver firewall yes,and black upholesty, but the common "Clone" had a black painted one,and various coloured seats etc, there were heaps of them in used car yards in Sydney in the 80's just to get a few more bucks, somebody must have been doing these paint jobs on a regular basis, and quite a few people were taken in. :(

The Range Rover was the first SUV and therefore Land Rover's first success at an SUV - Diana

Diana, Diana, Diana

A RR or any Landrover is NOT a SUV. In Australia speak, a SUV is something like a Holden SS Ute or an XR8 Ute but a RR is a 4WD.

Even my Freelander is not a SUV - it is an AWD or Softroader.

We must take every opportunity to stamp out Amercian speak whenever we can:)

I completely agree with you Garry, it really got on my nerves at Cooma when the Land Rover Australia M.D. was going on about SUV's and 4x4's.

I've only ever seen one GAME, in Katherine a few years back. He was a tourist (in the NT? in the Dry? in a Land Rover? who'd have thunk it?) and it had a diff lock and other bling. Very nice.
Everyone seems to have forgotten that the GAME also came standard with a Fairey Overdrive. Not a big difference, granted, but getting more and more desirable these days.

Would love to agree with you, I hate the Americanisation (notice the "s") of Orstraaylia and the Inglish language. (Thats for Ron!)

Unfortunately, all of our motoring organisations, the NRMA, the RACV, RACQ etc now recognise the Sports Utility Vehicle as a descrete market sector.

The sad fact is also that the Range Rover is considered the seminal SUV, which in the words of the television programme "Torque" created a whole new class of vehicle.

I'm sorry the Range Rover is in the SUV class for keeps. :(

Oh....Congrats on the new Landie Feenie :D
Yellow is good :D Coz yellow is different and stands out, and makes a statement :D
I thought that Yellow 101 at the show up your way looked great, as you said, really stands out.

And I do like the look of the Game. Pitty they only used silver paint on the firewall if they galvanised them they would last forever.

Even more unfortunately you are right. We seem to be stuck with the terminology, although very few if any "SUV"s are remotely sports cars, very few are utilities, but I suppose all could be described as vehicles, more or less.

Simply another case of commercial organisations (I think the movers in this example were the motor industry associations - the motoring associations followed their lead) copying American advertising terminology in the hopes that the preponderance of this language on television will give them an advertising advantage.

Possibly it works, or they would stop doing it.

G'day All, Nice pick up there, but just for your info the B/head was painted Silver across the front i.e. above the guards and behind the bonnet to the windscreen, the narrow skirts were Black, fitted with 15" Sunraysia wheels, deluxe bonnet (bull nosed) rear view mirrors attached to the top of the guards at the front, bolt on brush bar, front section painted Black like yours is and a tubular brush bar which attached to the original bar, yours is a late model S2A/S3 ex mil bar.
Yours is fitted with the correct spare wheel carrier, but the Game had a 1 piece rear door also fitted were 2 useless bits of steel down low on the back of the tub to protect the number plate, and I'm not sure about this one but I think they had a fold up step for rear entry. Inside they were fitted in deluxe trim all in Black, the H/top had a Safari/Tropical roof with inside vents, and the rear sliding windows from memory anyway cheers mate Dennis:wasntme:
PS I also think there was a Game logo on the sides of the guards as well

G'day FenianEel :)

Hey, that a nice straight looking vehicle :) got 2/2a military type tail light protectors, with the side safety holes cut in them, the brush bar looks like late 2a/3 military type, the rear wheels look like they are 15 sunraisier type and the front standard 16 inch wheels, DON'T use it in 4X4 until you have matching size wheels as that will do :eek::eek: to the driveline, the AVM hubs are freewheel hubs, and are quite good quality, I have had a set on mine for 15 years, the rear seal on those should be the felt under the axle nut,(1"nut) about $2 from FWD motors at Yeronga, get a couple and keep them as spares, take the axle cap off first, as it may have the 24 spline axle as later 3's have, if so it will be a "O" ring type seal and the axle will be retained by a circlip.

Nice straight body, will make a nice around town run about:D

Isn't that the same code as the Game?

I would suspect it was a special order, however Dept of Civil Aviation used to have bright yellow Land Rovers for going out to service the various beacons.

So if it was a DCA order they may have just used the Game colour. - Brian will know.

Well, I finally got it home today:arms::arms:
It was apparently "out at the airport" in its previous life.
It also looks to have the holes for the gardening tools on its wings
Will know more tomorrow when I have a proper "go over" and report back.

The Bureau of Mineral Resources had yellow paint like that and the brush bar, light protectors and garden tools, lots had a tropical roof too. Ok Pedro, :p

The thing looks to be in remarkable nick.
Haven't checked over or started it yet.
Very little rust, passenger side door top has cancer, passenger side footwell smallish hole. Chassis is brilliant. Body is great.

Clutch master & slave cylinder are shagged, have been removed, due to be replaced.
Brake master cyl is shagged have been removed, (have a NOS one of these)
These were in an amazing state - the insides look a storage facility of apple crumble and treacle!
Brake lines, wheel cylinders and pads seem fine.

Electrics are a concern, (mainly because I hate them).
Several extra power sockets and ancillary attachments were present and some have been removed. There are wires going everywhere:spudnikworried:

THis is just one of the switch panels that was attached to the dash
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2008/10/856.jpg

Seats are in great nick, with map pockets on the back. Yippee
I am in need of a lower dash though, anyone anyone?

With the 3 box of parts there a heap of NOS stuff. Like mudflaps with the stock sticker still on them, window channel, bearings, brake pads, gaskets galore, visors in the plastic, fuel caps, mirrors, brake hoses, A fairey o/drive :ehigh5:, diff centre.
I have to go through and actually catalogue what is there. Some bits I don't even know what they are.

Here's 2 pics of my original game - only thing that's not up there is the roo bar, which originally was silver in colour, I believe. I have recently sourced a hoop set and bikini top - looks pretty good, and is the perfect roller skate for beach hoping the northern beaches of Sydney.

I have spare O/D, transfer case, axles etc etc - have recovered the seats in a slightly lighter brown than the ones I bought it with, and marine grade. The hard top is not a safari version, but is the original.
