Did the first oil change on the 300 today. They say these engines are almost identical, I reckon they couldn't be more different! I like the drain plug position, perfect spot to soak the front anti roll bar (which was absent on the other one anyway). The oil filter is impossible to reach from above, kickdown cables, a/c pipes and steering shaft in the way - and below, with the anti roll bar in the way. The 200 one was on a nice perfect angle to reach from behind!

I also heard my coolant tank venting - opened it up to notice it had 10mm of coolant in it - pretty poor considering I just spent FOUR FIGURES to have a tbelt done and it should have been properly refilled and bled...:(. I wouldn't be stressing if it was the 200 but I'm very suspicious of the 300Tdi cooling system...

So it now has a nice Mann filter and Delvac 1 in it (hey rick, gee that oil goes in thin, 5w40 is farrr tooooo thin for a diesel stir stir ), plus the correct coolant volume!!!

The low coolant level may be a good thing - perhaps an air lock has "burped" into the tank and now the void has been filled with coolant. Probably best to top up and check again next week to see if the level changes.

Good thing you weren't working on the TD5 - ever tried replacing the centrifugal oil filter or indeed the normal oil filter canister?

You need the hands of a small child....;) or that of the rubbery character from Fantastic 4.

I use the Bushie method to change the Oil Filter:

Cut the bottom off a 2 litre milk container and put this around the filter as you unscrew it..it catch most of the stuff if you are careful...don't forget to leave the lid on.;)

Except, the 300Tdi lacks voice. It sounds like a volvo 5-cyl petrol at cruise.

The 200Tdi sounds like a REAL diesel truck all the time!!!

I fitted a float switch inside the tank so get an early warning if the water is low.

Cost about $25 for the switch.

mmm, yes the 200Tdi oil filter position isn't exactly what I call user-friendly...you need a HQ Holden 6 cyl for that description!

Whinging for me is an inherited property from the bloodlines of too many whinging poms:D.

If I drive too much, I'll start whinging about fuel costs:p.
