Here's the new D3......
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ (http://javascript<b></b>:openWindow("/front_website/gallery.php?id=255660", 600, 400))
It's Official! Auto Express can reveal the first pictures of Land Rover's new look Discovery.
Set to make its public debut at the London Motor Show in July the car will go on sale in August, priced from £29,950.
An evolution, rather than revolution in design, the newcomer gets a re-profiled front bumper, revised rear bumper and body coloured wheel arches.
The distinctive two-piece tailgate now comes with body coloured tailgate lift handle and the attention to detail continues with the revised 'tungsten' coloured side vents and door handles.
New 19-inch 7-spoke alloy wheels and three new exterior metallic paint colours – Santorini Black, Galway Green and Bournville will also be offered, while inside interior upgrades include a new ‘almond’ trim colour and an updated Bluetooth system.
Beautiful isn't it......

Looks like they are going for the "Prado" look.

But is there any mention of a 3L TDV6?

Wait till all the changes are put foreword, my 07 FFRR has only a few comestic external changes from my 03 FFRR but they could have made it a completely new model with all the other changes.
Changes like the TDV8, new front diff, changes to the interior and the upgraded electronics.
So they have probably done the same with the D3, we just have to wait to see what new features may be in the offering.

I wouldn't say they are going for a "Prado look" at all, to me it doesn't look that different to the current model.
I already had my bumpers and wheel arches colour coded, guess I'll have to do the tail gate lift handle too.

Couldn't even notice the diff.
Hate to say it but LR need to leave the plastic parts unpainted. The off-road scratches are going to only look worse on the wheel arches and front bumper.
Hope that the colour coding is an option. Give me the raw plastic anyday.

I have been offroad on a few occasions - rocky rutted tracks and 70cm deep creek crossings + a reasonable amount of beach work. I haven't experienced any scratches yet. With painted wheel arches I would reccommend front mudflaps though.
I understand why they are left raw and the advantages, I am not a massive offroader so the scratches are not a major concern of mine. I think it looks better and am happy with the little bit of individuality I get from it.

totally agree. I reckon it is a step backwards - but hey - its still the same fantastic beast underneath! (or is there a change mechanically?)

Me too!
I've got little gouges in all my wheel arch trims from branches and stuff. If they had been painted they would look really bad by now.

Well a young 'lady' in a new Prado decided to change lanes across the front of me. It split her rear drivers side wheel arch and the corner of the rear bumper and only left a scuff mark on my front wheel arch. :D Leave 'em unpainted I say. :)

Hate to pull the discussion away from painted wheel arches :p but does anyone have any info on possible power plant upgrades? Will the tdv8 ever get put into the disco or is that strictly reserved for the rr's?

The 3L TDV6 will make an appearance due to emission restrictions (at least in Euro-spec'd cars) and may have greater tuning potential than the 2.7. But the word is that the TDV8 will not be considered for the D3.
Mind you, you could always start a new project and let us know how it goes ;)
Cheers,

Who in their right mind would even consider to go for a TD in this climate?
With the price of diesel now up to .30 cents dearer than ULP it's a very long time before you begin to get your money back for paying a premium for the diesel engine.
Is the Diesel v's ULP position now swinging to ULP?
Don't know

What premium, Feral?
in 'S' spec, the TDV6 is only $2000 dearer than the V6
and in 'HSE' spec the TDV6 is $6000 cheaper than the V8

mmmmm.....on those figures it easy.
The missing link is the SE. My mate bought a SE about November last year and he was stewing over how much to diesel. To him with his lease or whatever was looking at about $10,000.
I wasn't privy to all the facts and figures so I could not make a clear judgement call.
You certainly have to be a Nostradamus accountant these days to work it all out. :(

Maybe with a lease it's different.
Mine's not leased so I don't know about stuff like that either.
I suppose it comes back to what you want the car for, how many km you do etc. For me the diesel was the choice, but for others, I suppose the petrol may be the better option.

Absolutely agree, even if I find the current dimpled black plastic a bugger to clean!

The 3L TDV6, any confirmation and time to come out? maybe worthwhile to wait for it a little bit:angel:

I was negotiating with a LR dealer recently for a new LR Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE to be delivered later in the year so the dealer indicated that it would be a 2009 build (which start July/August in the UK). The dealer went through the various option changes for the 2009 but no mention of engine changes (but would they tell me anyway?). Changes seemed to be in trim & finish (as already noted in this thread) plus variations/upgrades to some options such as SatNav, Bluetooth Phone Integration and Premium ICE.
The "maturity" of the vehicle and the 2.7l TDV6 diesel and the lower "real" fuel consumption compared to its main 4WD competitor (Toyota LC 200) were important factors in selecting the LR3.

Feral,
I complained to the ACCC (aka Toothless Tiger) about diesel pricing and was told that the price in Australia is based on the wholesale price in Singapore.
I was in Singapore this week and at the bowser, diesel was SG$1.714 per litre and unleaded (95) was SG$2.019 per litre.
Then factor in that SG$1 = AU$0.77 and I am getting really annoyed at the profiteering of the Australian fuel companies and the inaction of the ACCC and governments.:mad::mad:
Time for another rocket to the ACCC.

Rob

of course you know that the Singapore government subsidises retail diesel right? and this means that retail diesel is cheaper than wholesale diesel!! Fuel excise is about $0.40 per litre on petrol... so taking that into account AND the fact that transport from Singapore to Australia costs money, I think you will find fuel in Australia is CHEAP. :wasntme:

what about the TAX on fuel ? what about the higher diesel price? we in Australia already pay very high prices for cars. Oh yes, and the increased luxury car tax.....

mcmanusd, thanks for the info.
I heard from disco3 forum that the new TDV6 3.0 engine will come in 2010 and the hybrid diesel is under RD. However, it's also commented that the 3.0 would perhaps be detuned to meet EURO emmission restrictions.
please feel free to correct me.

those colour codedwheel arch flares are no good in the scrub...my sons (soon to be sold he wants a fender)navara has them and his are covered with bad scratches as they are the widest part of the vehicle......give me the unpainted ones on the d2 anyday:D
i think its got a bit of pathfinder in it not prado:(
they have definitely done the jap thing.....a bit of paint here new bummper there minimum changes& now an updated model
at least when they updated the d2 there were a lot of changes.....better headlights, cdl returned, torque increased for auto models, less cab noise to name a few
the sad thing is landrover probably have lost access to fords components & their r&d.:(it is with this help they have been able to develope the best & most advanced 4x4s on the planet.
it will be interesting to see how they go with ..ta..ta:
ummm those fuel prices....isnt it time to build a bridge...the high prices are hear to stay:mad:

I think you can order non colour coded bumpers from factory. Ask the dealer.
