Johnson 4 strokes are a Suzuki 4 stroke in a white cowling.
Arguably the best 4 strokes made at present. It will be quiet and frugal but 15 horsies may be a bit under gunned depending on your plans for it.
With boats however, I am of the school you can never have enough horsies! (In the salt we run a worked 30hp 2 banger on a 12 footer, but then a nice quiet & light 9.9hp in the fresh???)
$3k is a good price for that rig... depending on what you wanna do (and how fast)...
If its hardly been used I cant imagine you will have problems with the outboard.

G'day Adrian
I had an 11m Cruiser moored @ the Bellerive Yact club for about 5 years. I used to have a 7hp Suzuki 2 stroke on a 3m tunnel hull and eventually it sucuumbed to the inevitable marinised 2 stroke issues (outta round bore, corosion etc etc etc)
I went to lewis's n brought a 2.5hp Honda 4 stroke for $999.
Now i know its only a teenie little motor but if the Johnson/susuki is any match it will be the best thing since sliced bread. Start first pop, cheap to run, quiet, heaps of grunt (try a little prop tuning, its a black art but worth doing)
Mine because of its size has no waterpump, no gearbox and is simlicity itself
