I have my eye on a S11a for potential acquisition, and am trying to get an idea of build date etc.

The chassis (body) number on the plate in front of the gear stick is 24302243a.

From my research I can find that this numbering series was used for vehicles dated 1962-1979 and the 243 refers to a S11a 88" petrol (which it is). Can any further information be gleaned from the remaining numbers to get a build date etc????

Thanks

G'day CJC_TD5 :)

Going by that number my Master Parts Book lists it as 1961 model Series 2a 88" RHD Export CKD :) that would make one assembled at PMC at Enfield in Sydney, and the 2242nd chassis built in the 1961 year model :D (first was 24300001a) production started in Sept 1960 for the 61 year model.

cheers

Thanks LRV8 and UncleHo for your wisdom.

The S11a has been used as farm-town transport for many years and is very straight, though it has been sitting under a tree for the last ten+ years.

Looks like I now just have to work on the owner to convince her that she need to sell it to a good home....:D

Just a quick note. Series Land Rover serial numbers were never exactly sequential. They were allotted in (from memory) batches of six in CKD production.
