Baz, it's hard to comment without seeing pics of where you're up to.

C'mon - it didn't happen without pics!

Ron (who has his son's Suzi GS1100G that might be restored).

I remember
5 up not 1 down and 4 up
tank slapper
like riding a bit of chewing gum though the bends ( frame flex)
crank seals, ( watch crank float)

Oil pump drive being a bit unreliable
points cam, no harding so it ends up round.

at the end of the day, thay were not a nice bike ( quick but not nice) i only recall 1 bike that was worce and that was the A7.

run it a bit rich, buy bumping up the float leavel a 1-1.5mm, do not run it with out air filters or even pods. and cooler plugs, just change them more often,

restore it, or give it to some who will.

Didn't you race these, Baz?

If so, why not restore it to look like your old racer and use it in classic events?

Yeah i know, i'm hunting for some pics ATM:p

I'm up to the point of body work ready to paint, alloy covers need the chrome removedand re-polished (previous owner chromed the ingnition, oil pump, throttle and switch block and clutch covers:twisted:) and wiring loom reinstalled.

The 1100G is surprisingly a very easy bike to ride, given it's bulk, a very good tourer Ron.

OK found one

Yep i know all about the good and bad things about these bikes, i have raced both the H1 and H2, the head shake can be fixed by raking the forks, brakes can be fixed by simply replacing the rubber hoses with braided lines, and when racing them you simply remove the oil feed pump and go 2 stroke straight feed through the fuel.

For road riding you just adjust your riding style:eek::D

Sounds to me like you are nearly there. I think you'd be disappointed if you didn't finish. However, I do understand. I was sorely tempted to bring my old Hillman Hunter back from my son's place and to restore it. I bought it new in 1971. I didn't as I really doubt I'd get it done. If I'd had somewhere to store it out of the weather, I would have done so.

Yes, I had a GS850G that Lee gave me some years back and which got me back into riding after a 25 year hiatus..

The pictures tell me why you haven't got the project finished yet, 2 kegs take a while to drink :)

Given it is near complete you wouldn't have problems selling it if you don't want to finish it off. Looks like the big bits are done but all those little detail bits do take a while.
